Welcome
Cromwell, welcome to EvC.
When you are replying to a message, to the left of the textbox you are typing in are three links;
*HTML is ON
*UBB Code is ON
Smilies Legend
These three links should answer most formating questions you might have. Another way to get those answers is to click the little edit button on the bottom of a post where someone does something you want to be able to do. You can only edit your own posts, but it will show you how the other member formatted something.

Here is a variation on the second
You can make words appear boldface or italisized or even underlined
you can indent passages of text
You can even subscript or superscript
The examples I give here that use square brackets are in the UBB code link. The examples that use the carots <> are HTML
You will become a member as you post more. The only designations here are junior member, member, moderator and administrator. Once you reach 31 posts you will become a full member.
Once again welcome to EvC

Re: What are you going to do with 1John 5: 7,8 ?
Terry writes:
1 Timothy and 2 Timothy were written by the apostle Paul and he was inspired. 2 Peter 3:15,16 refer to Paul's writings as scriptures.
Please accept my belated welcome to the forum.
This thread appears to be gathering dust at the moment but on reading the above quote I notice what appears to be a misperception of the meaning of the word "scripture." It is, quite simply, an archaic way to speak of anything written. It by no means implies that the thing written is holy, or sacred, or inspired by God.
When Paul says that "all scripture is inspired by God" is he talking about his own scripture? If so, wouldn't it be somewhat arrogant of him to put his own preachments on a par with those of Moses and Isaiah? But if he is actually referring to the holy scripture, as it existed in his time, then it becomes doubtful that he is claiming the same august station for his own work.
Does this make sense to you?
