Author | Topic: Can god heal the sick? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Your entire post ASSUMES that God loves everyone. Yes it does. I thought that was the whole point of redemption. The god that I believe in does love everyone. That is why I do not believe that god was accurately portrayed in the bible.
Don't trifle with God. He may give up on you - His love is not a doormat. The god I believe in loves us unconditionally. So, you and I differ in a lot of ways.
Quite the contrary, God will court a person and give them chance after chance, but the risk of rejecting God one too many times is that He will cease hounding you. Do you believe that god "hounded" you? I never felt hounded at all. That seems very sad.

"hounding"....."hound" is me borrowing from poetry. God is called the "Hound of heaven".....it is complimentary....like a mother who hounds after her kids. Come on Monkey must I explain every little thing !?!?

Going a little off topic in this thread might be a good thing, given the levels of angst.
MonkeyBoy writes: ... I have just never heard of god being referred to as the Hound of Heaven! It is a reference to a very famous and haunting poem, by Francis Thompson (1859-1907). The poem is in first person, describing how the poet flees from God, but is pursued and finds in the end that the escape he seeks is the same as the invincible love that pursues him.
The Hound of HeavenI fled Him, down the nights and down the days; I fled Him, down the arches of the years; I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears I hid from Him, and under running laughter. Up vistaed hopes I sped; And shot, precipitated, Adown Titanic glooms of chasmed fears, From those strong Feet that followed, followed after. But with unhurrying chase, And unperturbd pace, Deliberate speed, majestic instancy, They beat - and a Voice beat More instant than the Feet - "All things betray thee, who betrayest Me." That is only the first verse; the rest is available in the link. This message has been edited by Sylas, 05-18-2004 04:30 PM

Thanks, Sylas; that was beautiful.
I apologize for displaying any signs of anger, I do know better. I misread WT's post, I thought that he was referring to a verse in the bible.

Yes, it is better.
In fact, I withdraw any negative correlation that I made ascribing you with what I interpreted that avatar to mean/indicate.

I am truly impressed.
Thanks Sylas, this debate needed what you said. We are now even, you owe me nothing for getting you on the fast track to Admin halls.

No problem, WT. I actually like to see people fight for what they passionately believe in.
Just know that those that disagree with you will be just as passionate.

OH, you TOTALLY TOLD HIM!!!
I believe that I know what you're pointing out... that debating at this level is not going to accomplish anything. I also believe that some folks will believe anything if you say it enough times (*cough*saddamhadnukessaddamhadnukessaddamhadnukes*cough*), but that they are rare on this forum.

Zephyr,
I believe that I know what you're pointing out... that debating at this level is not going to accomplish anything. Spot on. If belief were evidence....... Mark This message has been edited by mark24, 05-19-2004 11:54 AM
