Yes it is true. There not only was life on Mars, there is life on mars. One of the shots returned from, IIRC, the third or fourth series of photos showed a martian bunny.

It can be seen in the bottom half of this shot

This photo was fully examined by NASA and has not been tampered with in any way.

Later photos showed that it had moved and was underneath the lander.

Yes, that is definitely a stingray and not a rock covered in sand. Because, you know, sand doesn't get on rocks, and the Mars rovers are actually underwater.
