Strand Magazine was the Victorian x-files - they also published photographic evidence of fairies IIRC!

Re: Some Goodies
Even if the coffin is not leaning up against the train car, you can still perceive that it is large. Here is a clearer picture of it:
As for evidence folks, since when did I claim this was "evidence". I'm just providing this data for all of us to take a look at and study. I'm not here to say these photos are "proof" of any giants.

hey - we could do with your help on the Jesus blood thread! We can't work out how Ron lost the evidence for that one.

We also have no way of telling "how deep" or "how far extended" this coffin goes back. It is not that far at all from the train car--looking at it from the feet of the mummy to the bottom of the train car.
But whatever this "mummy" is, you can be sure I'm pretty skeptical.

Ok but large people are not the claim being followed up. Without a means of determining the distances between the objects in the photo we cannot say what the size is either way.So while it may seem sensational upon examination there is less of the sensational and more of the mundane present. Also I might add that in comparison between the two pictures you immediately get a distinct impression that the second photo is far less distorting of relative size. Also we see that the coffin is raised ABOVE THE GROUND TO BEGIN WITH.

Re: Some Goodies
Hey Lysimachus,
You did some great work there getting those pictures! You would be surprised at how much surprising information one can get from emailing the right individuals.
BTW, Jonathan Gray has actually written a book recently about giant humans.
As a note to everybody:
If we are going to discuss the matter of whether or not giant human-groups (in general) existed beyond the middle-east, then I will attempt to supply all the information I have collected over the past 4-5 years.
I have infact, been studying and researching extensively the traditions and records of large & tall human tribes, and their remains as documented within North and South America and abroad.

That photograph above looks rather like a Classical statue in a box. The fingers don't seem very well separated, for example. An 8- or 9-foot statue would not in itself be remarkable.

Re: Some Goodies
While I am not convinced about the reliability of the site it seems to err on the side of credulity:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/dp5/ape2.htm
It features the same photograph, but states that it is of an alleged "fossilised Irish Giant". Other references repeat the same story from the same secondary source.
In all probability this is simply a hoax like the "Cardiff Giant".

Re: Some Goodies
Perhaps you are right PaulK, but as always, the proper scientific method works thus:
If it hasn't been proven true, it does not mean it has been proven false. Only until proven false can something as such be entirely "untrue".

Re: Some Goodies
I think that the 12-ft mummy reminds me of the Cardiff Giant of the 1860's, which was a famous carved hoax. The fact that no scientists are mentioned makes me believe this.
But I think the goal I need to achieve is to find out somehow, whether or not the fingerbone Ron Found is in the museum in Nashville. If a doctor could verify or disprove its authenticity then we would have actual truth about it.
Lysimachus, You said that you know a guy named Andrew who claims to have some large human bones? If you could ask him if he still has them , or if he would be willing to take a photo of them that would shed some light on the mystery.

Re: Some Goodies
the standard "I got nothing in my hand but I'll try and bluff it".
John I'll give you 10/1 that the bones are lost or can't be examined for some reason.
