Re: Charles Knight
Ok, I wasn't going to reply to this, but I'm going to because of popular demand.

I didn't know holding true to your beliefs was arrogance.
I've been taking philosophy classes for years now. If you know anything about philosophy, you (the general sense of someone, not necessarily you you) should know that the best way to evaluate something is to question it, not hold on to a belief about it so tightly that noone can get through to you.
I guess I am used to the mindset of skepticism nowadays. I'd forgotten the good old days when my beliefs were so true (to me at least) that not even the Ph. D. physicists and biologists could change my mind otherwise (trust me, I used to get into long arguments with my teachers because they were teaching things like the change in allele frequencies and kinematics). I'd forgotten how secured I felt "knowing" how everything had a simple explanation straight out of the bible and that calculus, modern science, and all that "crap" were really just nonsense.
In other words, nowadays I am too used to being a skeptic that I forgot how many people are still not used to questioning their own beliefs. For this, I apologize. Don't mind me. Continue on doing whatever you were doing.
So you're my teacher?
No, but Eta and some other people here qualify to beat the snot out of your high school teachers. Wait, did I confuse you with someone else?
You assume you are less "dumb" than me.
This is why I sometimes feel compelled to not respond to someone like you. You read too much into what I wrote. Here, let me explain.

I'm assuming that you were refering to this particular sentence. I still don't see how this could mean "I am less dumb than you".
You are the person judging by formal education. I can't say I don't mind. I feel insulted by your observations of intelligence or lack there of.
Well, nobody is perfect, including myself. I have a weakness of not holding someone that is so entrenched (I actually had to look up that word in the dictionary to see if it is spelled "intrenched" or "entrenched") in his beliefs that he is impervious to new info in high regards.

I don't think I read into it by assuming you meant when you said "at least I knew not everyone was as dumb as I was", that you thought that I thought I was more intelligent than everyone.

I hope you confused me with someone else because I've never mentioned teachers I've had in the past and said "they're better than you" to anyone. I have no clue why you feel I would "feel compelled" to say that. You reply to me by accident?

Yeah, I used to question but I strive to be wise, a questioning philosopher isn't wise, a hard laborer that perhaps lacks education and only has a few simplistic beliefs but does not question those beliefs is wise. It's ironic that that's what the philosopher strives for, he may be more intelligent but will never be wise. I am not ignorant however and by "new info" you mean evidence (which wouldn't really make sense) I don't shy away from evidence.

You have a very strange definition of wise. To most people, the person you described in the big sentence isn't wise at all. Most people would call him hard-headed.
Frankly, I hate talking to people like that. Talking to them is like talking to a wall. Unfortunately, a wall can't think for itself and it will always view you as the ignorante one.
Anyway, good day to you.
Oh, wait! I think I know what you meant now. You were refering to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail kind of wise. A witch burns like wood. Wood floats in water. A duck also floats in water. Therefore, if a woman weighs about the same as a duck, she is a witch.

Uh no.
In my "definition" I was trying to show faith is needed for wisdom.
Of course you only reply to to the opinion part. For that's what you're good at: adding your oppressive rudeness.
