Ok, in B2P's thread School's in the fall, I was largely responsible for getting it closed down. So, here is another chance for the original topic.
For me, school started a week ago.I was actually very glad that school started again. Summer was just too boring for me, despite the fact that I spent all summer taking out the carpets, painting the walls, putting in wood floorings for the entire house, and replacing the stairs. In fact, I had to rush to get it done and I got done the day before I moved into my dorm. Boy, was I glad that that was over with.
What did I learn? I learned the necessity of education. Without it, I could be doing everything I mentioned above for the rest of my life to make a living.

It takes balls to do the above. A spineless wimp can sit in a cubicle. I'm not blaming you for not wanting to do those jobs, but those people deserve far more respect for their work than any white collar businessman.

Anyway, on to the topic
So anyway, I do my thing for two days and the thread was already closed?!
Oh well. School's pretty awesome now that we're driving, except in a panic to get one of our friends in a buddy's truck(I was in it) the driver turned around to order us to let him in, then we smacked into the back of a big black Aerostar(van). Lotsa fun
Also, I've got a nice rowdy crowd in most of my classes, so I think it'll be fun to guess how long it'll be before I'm thrown out of them again...
Schrafinator, I'm sorry to have read what you said in the original thread. I had a very difficult relationship with a very close family member for years, and less than a year ago that person kicked. I also can't help but wonder if that made a difference.
It's impressive that you still kept up the grades, though. I sure don't. I'm not saying it's any excuse scholastically; I'm fully aware that my mediocre GPA is simply because I don't give a flying fck about school and its useless piles of busy work and lectures about things few of us will use as adults. Hey, if people are going to use Algebra II as adults, let 'em take it as an elective! I've never heard of a preacher who uses Calculus! Not that I'll ever be in such an insanely difficult subject...
Anyone else think weightlifting should be a mandatory class? I think everyone should get a chance to outshine somebody else; let those math whizes come in and pump afew. THEN we'll see who's boss.
If they're good at both math and weightlifting, then awesome. If not, then I will laugh at them in whichever I can beat them in. But wouldn't we all?

Wanna feel God? Step onto the wrestling mat and you'd be crazy to deny the uplifting spirit. http://www.BadPreacher.5u.com (incomplete, but look anyway!)

Overall you become more intelligent sitting through those hated lectures, I hate seeing preachers that had this attitude in school, they always mention regreting it, and then go on talking about hockey or basketball... B2P don't be like that man, lead the new generation of preachers with knowledge of math, the sciences, etc...
What do you mean you don't give a flying fck?
...soundness of speech... -Titus 2:8
I can't say I follow through with God's teachings a lot of the time, maybe I should take the splinter out of my eye first!

Your crazy man, weightlifting is included in a mandatory class, GYM.
I think calculus in this day and age would help a person in life achieve success more than weight lifting!
Colleges love that stuff! (I think)

Actually I think we ought to ditch all gym classes, as well as shop class and all that other horseshit. Plus, school starts too early and goes too long. Teenagers need sleep; that's just physical reality.
Here's how I'd run the school day; each of these classes would be an hour or so.
1) Population ecology (top down science)
2) Biological chemistry (bottom up science)
3) Physical science elective (geography, geology, physics, etc)
4) Math
5) Grammar
6) Historical literature
And then a few hours in the afternoon for extracurriculars, like sports, drama, music, etc.
It's ludicrous that (in my school at least) we had a class where we learned about the structure and history of our government (social studies), a class where we learned about the history of the structure of our government (history), and a class where we learned what people had been writing about our government in history (english). To hell with that. More science, that's what people need. What's more practical than science?
And to hell with computer classes. Public schools aren't equipped to teach anything about computers that isn't out of date the minute you learn it, on ancient PC technology.
You run that curriculum, though, and have rich, varied extracurricular opportunities, and you'll churn out genius kids and good citizens. As far as I know.

I'm sure Big Brother would love to have the school system you suggested. More creative writing, I say. More literature, more music, more arts! A science and math major could never hold a candle to a dictator. You need philosophers against that kind of thing; nothing else can do the job other than violence. In that case, weightlifting sure helps make good soldiers.
Also, our gym class sucks. We sit around and take notes on nutrition then run maybe a mile. Ridiculous. I'd double the running ever day if I were in control. People bitch about obesity, then they flinch when told to run a single mile. But then again, I see your point about science as well. Still, creativity is far more important than practicality for obvious reasons. No logical-minded scientist can come up with a good video game plot. You need an imagination for that.
Even if we find the cure for cancer, what's the point if life's no fun? Gotta have creativity!

Yes. After school, as extracurriculars.
A science and math major could never hold a candle to a dictator.
Says you, I guess. The scientist is over there fabricating zipguns from basic plumbing and chemical supplies, so he's a little too busy to interject right now.
In that case, weightlifting sure helps make good soldiers.
Extracurricular. I'm not saying that I don't want kids to do those things; but they should have to if they don't want to.
On the other hand, we're the worst in the world, almost, at getting our kids to learn important stuff like science.
Still, creativity is far more important than practicality for obvious reasons.
I agree, but you can't teach that in a class. There's no textbook in the world that will make you more creative.
So, art, drama, and music extracurriculars. Speech (forensics) and stuff.
Even if we find the cure for cancer, what's the point if life's no fun? Gotta have creativity!
Well, yeah, that's why I want a short school day. You don't learn creativity sitting at a desk.
