I once had a conversation with someone on this forum about the plausibility of "pure energy". I didn't know how to put foward a convincing arguement that pure energy exists then because I didn't really know what pure energy was. So, I've been looking at CERN's website Error | CERN and after a little reading this is what I understood:
All matter is a very condensed form of energy. All matter has antimatter. When antimatter and matter combine they annihilate which produces a 100% conversion to light. Now, if light has no mass then we could say it is a form of pure energy - could we not?

Re: ?
Well, you have my empathy as my topics are wildly unpopular also. I have to say I don't know what the point of pure energy is. If there wasn't pure energy how would that change anything?

Hi Mission,
It sounds like you're trying to form a mental picture of "pure energy". One simple way to think about energy is to divide it into two types. One type would be kinetic energy, like the energy in a baseball thrown by a pitcher. This is the energy of motion.
The other type is, as you correctly surmised, the pure energy you're looking for, though pure energy isn't really a scientific term. It is the energy of electromagnetic radiation, radio waves and light and so forth. Electomagnetic radiation consists of photons, and I suppose it would be okay to think of them as "pure energy", because they are energy unencumbered by matter.
But "pure energy" isn't really a scientific term. I would suggest thinking about kinetic energy on the one hand, which is just matter in motion (the kinetic energy of an object moving at non-relativistic speeds is Ek=mv2/2, where m is mass and v is velocity), and about electromagnetic energy on the other, the energy of photons (the energy of a photon is Ep=hf, where h is Planck's constant and f is frequency).

Or may be the "pure energy" that sci fi shows usually depict is really just photonic matter?

Sorry- I forgot to put my post in context.
The "pure energy" I was talking about earlier really only had to do with explaining the scientific possibility of a Creator. My opinion of the existance of a God (in one form or another) literally changes day-by-day.
So, when I explained that I had a chat earlier with another member about pure energy it was in the context of explaining the possibility of a Creator made of pure energy.
I now think that my arguement is totally ridiculous anyway so I don't really wish to proceed. FYI, I sometimes take the less probable side of an arguement just to make sure it isn't correct, for my own peace of mind.
(fixed a typo)

Re: Sorry- I forgot to put my post in context.
May I propose the possibility that there was indeed an all knowing, all powerful, and all... whatever that created the universe. It was pure energy itself. It decided that it was just too boring so it sacrificed itself and made the universe out of itself. In other words, it isn't anymore.
