It's time for people to nominate a person for the poster of the year. To help you with your struggle to ascertain who this giant of EvC posting should be, I recommend five wiz categories, each category being scored out of ten, using these categories to see how your nomination does in each. ( This is however, just a recommendation, but your nominated person should register well in each category ) So here they are;
1. Objectivity/Open-mindedness
2. Debating skills
3. Behaviour/attitude towards other posters
4. Contributions to EvC.
5. Knowledge and effort
So have at it my bad. (Is that good US lingo? ) --> Get voting, lines close December 31st 2004. You are only allowed one nomination, the winner is s/he with the most votes.
(Please make it clear who you are voting for)
Bad example; " Oh I really like Pob ". That's fine - but is Pob your nomination?
Good example: " I choose Pob ".

Your only allowed one nomination. That's five nominations of one nominee. Now don't get clever, those other four Ned's don't exist.

The Standings so far
1st: Bill Birkeland - 2 votes
2nd: Percy, Ned, Crashfrog, Rei, Truthlover - 1 vote each
_______________________________________
Advice (ignore if you want); Those categories I mentioned, I mean it's your choice but the idea is that someone
is the poster of [this year]. So, you might want to;1. Hold off a bit longer; 2. Consider those categories which are also important, contributions/behaviour-attitude. So, that's my advice anyway cos it should go to the poster of [this year] rather than our favourite poster. Thanks.
Bad Example; daveythemouse posted a good post in 2002 and I agreed with him, so he's got my vote.

Ahaha. Thanks Tony, I enjoyed your post, and I can certainly not say you are wrong about Ned. Thanks for actually scoring your personal champ.
PS, (To Tony and others who haven't voted) you are right Tony - it is one poster, and then I suppose u can add up their score out of 50 if you want. But there's no strict rule, you can just choose a name and skip all that stuff. But choose wisely., the categories are there as a guide!
Forgive me for not being succinct.

I'll limit my input in this thread, but thanks for posts and comebacks so far, I will update the "standings so far" in due course.
Sherlock Holmes writes:
I'll leave it up to thread's owner to decide which ultimately is more important for winning this award.
Are you just trying to force me into a mathematical error?
I'll hold off on your nomination for now Holmes, and thanks for suggesting me as one who might decide which is more important BUT - may I suggest you hold out a lil longer, and come back with a nomination? Thanks. ( You can plead conscientcious objection if u want but I really don't want to decide for u)

Is this your vote tho? Or are you saving it for later on in the year like Holmes.

Thanks Buz!
Reminder; (Buz I promise this is not aimed at you, I've been choking on the thought all day)..but knowledge and posts of the month MUST trump who we *want* or *favour*, well - atleast in my opinion anyway. And consider that there is untill the end of 2004 to vote. So far some names are definitely missing, but it's early days yet.
Also, I'd like the Admins to make any suggestions they feel necessary as to who we should vote for (obviously not by name) - but rather, how we should choose. I only made the topic but they run the forum, and make the decisions, I feel if they have suggestions then their input is VERY valid to this topic. Thanks.

Is Ned your vote?
Thanks for the input Jar. If Ned likes we can still do what he suggested, I'm happy to "start" this thread but I think it would be good if the Admins took over as we go on. Meanwhile I'll do the scoreboard untill they arrive.
(Pleas make sure to say " I vote so and so" - so I can be clear that you have voted.

Okay Buz, calm down - I apreciate your vote.
I've not forgotten there's some things you and me are at odds on, mind you!
*hides behind seat at Buz's wroth* - I'm guessing we are at odds about evolution?? I can't think of anything else.

Oh no - not you aswell. I told Lam that there's only one Ned at this board. Those other Ned's don't exist.
PS. Looking at your post number contributions Jar, I think that you deserve a medal, u could have wrote a book.

You get one nomination/vote (same thing), so now, you must choose between Mark24 or Loudmouth. I have included Mark24 on the "Standings so far" list because of your previous message concerning him. But you have now suggested Loudmouth, if you change your mind to Loudmouth, Mark24 will be removed from the list. I will continue to assume Mark24 is your vote unless you inform me otherwise.
I am aware that people of high posting quality should have been voted for by now, and henceforth then automatically nominated - I consider some names should be up there, but:
Automatic nomination system le Wiz has been put in place, via your vote.
For further clarification, read message one.
Explanation: I would consider the whole board as nominations, but I am no way writing all those names down. So your vote is your nomination, if that person has already been nominated via someone else, then your stated nomination is obviously just another vote. But we only have one choice for our personal Poster Of The Year. "Poster" of the year as in; It would be inapropriate to suggest two people, thanks.
Nominating YOUR personal Poster of the year counts as one vote, and is added to the standings. Further clarification for confused people;
You might aswell write, " I choose [name insert] " rather than, " I nominate " - obviously if a person has already been nominated, then infact you are just voting that person as your personal nomination and if you are the first to suggest that person then that person is voted for andimmediate nomination automatically--> will follow.
Example; Rei nominated MTW, MTW had not previously been suggested, and so Rei's nomination automatically counts as one vote, thus her personal nominated poster of [this year] is MTW. If she had said, " I vote MTW " then I would have automatically been nominated. If she says " I nominate " then I would be automatically recieve one vote.
Please feel free to ask any further questions.
The actual Poster of [this year] will be decided by number of most votes/personal nominations.
(Admin - if this system is not working, and/or you are displeased with this system, and want to suggest changes - please inform me).

Example; Minnemooseus and Loudmouth chose Bill Birkeland as whom they considered the Poster of [this year]. So, in this post Bill Birkeland received "2" votes. I will, in due course, update the "Standings so far" message.

Re: My first pass
I'm not ready to pick yet but it seems to me that, like the oscars, we could have multiple categories.
Lol, good idea.
Does this mean I'm going anywhere if I continue to collect votes? Maye I can continue collecting for a while and then..(insert idea, I'm brain dead ).?Maybe once they're all collected, the winner is The Poster Of The Year, and these categories you mention could be "The Categorised Posties of the year" - and we then vote for them, maybe a topic for each category, lol. .
Well, anyway - you're looking like the poster of the year on votes Ned, so you might want to just keep this topic going eh.
I'll hold out on that updated list, 'till you make your vote. That will force you out of procrastinating.
