Example; Minnemooseus and Loudmouth chose Bill Birkeland as whom they considered the Poster of [this year]. So, in this post Bill Birkeland received "2" votes. I will, in due course, update the "Standings so far" message.

My first pass
I'm not ready to pick yet but it seems to me that, like the oscars, we could have multiple categories.
For Clarity of logic and back up data
Sylas
For overwhelming support and thorough crushing of dumb assertions
Bill Birkeland
For sharp eyed ripping up of weaknesses in arguments
RrHain
For constant quality with moderate quantity
Percy
For persistance, quality, clarity of thought and quantity
Schraf, Rei, Asgara, Crash, Loud, JT(well quantity went to hell), hangdawg, (I'll add others this is off the top of my head)
For being around a lot
ME!
Now for critisms of each.
Sylas went away.
Bills material is so overwhelming the target isn't able to understand, absorb or be changed by it.
RrHain gets more than a bit testy now and then
Percy is too busy to post enough
All the others often miss some important points about their opponents, don't always answer with more than an assertion and need to back things up a bit. (all to varying degress of course).
Me - ramble on without thinking things through, make stuff up off the top of my head.
I'll offer and actual vote later when I've had a chance to think more. ('Sides I always procrastinate)

Nobody's maybe just a little worried that we're gonna break our arms from patting each other's backs?
I hate watching the Oscars because it's a big spectacle of movie jerks telling each other how good they all are. I'm in favor of accolades when they are deserved, but does it really serve any legitimate purpose to go overboard in mutual admiration?

Lol, good idea.
Does this mean I'm going anywhere if I continue to collect votes? Maye I can continue collecting for a while and then..(insert idea, I'm brain dead ).?Maybe once they're all collected, the winner is The Poster Of The Year, and these categories you mention could be "The Categorised Posties of the year" - and we then vote for them, maybe a topic for each category, lol. .
Well, anyway - you're looking like the poster of the year on votes Ned, so you might want to just keep this topic going eh.
I'll hold out on that updated list, 'till you make your vote. That will force you out of procrastinating.

Point taken, but I have to admitt, it is fun to have these lil elected contests. Sometimes Coffeehouse can get a little dry and people don't get involved. If we offer to stroke ego's, they might want to get involved.

I pondered over this for some time, and so many people are worthy of this title.
I think that Paulk edges it for me.

IMPORTANT NEW RULE FOR ADMINS
......The Standings so far

Nominees votes
NosyNed 4
Bill Birkeland 2
mike the wiz 2
Percy 1
Crashfrog 1
Rei 1
Truthlover 1
Mark24 1
Sylas 1
Syamsu 1
Mammuthus 1
Paulk 1
___________________________________________________________
New rules concerning ALL Admins; (Forgive this late information)
Because the Admin are by far the most authoritive figures here - forced to take an objective stance concerning posters at this forum - and posters behaviour, the Admins can vote in their "Admin mode" aswell as their "participater mode" -- As long as the Admins think this rule is acceptable. The idea is that if you have for example, made your vote as Percy you can then make a vote as Admin. Whether you want to vote who you voted for in your participating mode, or make a new nomination, is entirely up to you. So for example, if Asgara voted for Rei, she could also vote for Rei, or someone else she feels might also be worth a nomination [this year], in her Admin mode of AdminAsgara. I think the Admin's should have more of a say so because of their presence and participation at this site, but also because of their unbiased and unique position of observing no favouritism. Thus, Consider this rule implemented, as soon as the head Admin/s says it is acceptable. So, the admin's will have one vote in participator mode, and one vote in Admin mode, if the rule is implemented. And obviously, if an Admin has already made a vote/personal nomination in participating mode, they will only have one vote left. Thankyou.

Shraff, you have previously voted for Syamsu. Do I change your vote, and remove Syamsu - changing it to Loudmouth?
Can you please readthis message, thanks.

rational democracy
Wiz your rules are the standard "winner take all" type election. Google instant runoff elections and you will see methods to allow more choice but still reach a conclusion. You will also need a cutoff date to enter final votes.

Re: rational democracy
Actually, this might be a good place for the Borda system, which was discussed in Activist Courts vs Oppressive Gov't topic. I think the (off-topic) voting system discussion got started at about message 19.
Anyhow, we could give our (say) top 5 selections in order of preference. The #1 pick would get 5 points, #2-4, #3-3, #4-2, and the #5 would get 1 point. Total up the points to get the winner, and a ranking form #1 on down.
I'll leave it up the the Wiz, if he wants to start a second variation topic.
I also started the Instant Runoff Voting topic.

My vote for Syamsu was a joke.
My vote for Loudmouth is my real vote.
