odds
When an event has happened the odds that it will occur is unity. We are here . Life has happened. Your argument seems to be "I exist, therefore god must exist to explain me. "Seeking god they became fools and mistook the eternal for the temporal."

Crash, since when are "first" and "only" synonyms?
These boards are really like intellectual heroine......every time I come here, I say to myself "only one hour"........and, low and behold, four hours later.........

"Atheists are just like theists; they find it highly disturbing when you try to weaken their faith." Myself, a couple minutes ago
I think it's cute that Sidelined changed his quote to be in direct opposition of mine. Internal thought
"I believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets...
I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen."

Before the second, first and only are the same thing. This isn't Zen, Jason.

So, the first guy to win the lottery cheated?
you know the first guy to win was not the only one? The point is life is here, so there's no odds. Any math calculations that assume it couldn't happen are false.

This is a circular argument that could be used to defend all sorts of absurdities.

This is a circular argument that could be used to defend all sorts of absurdities (such as the materialistic evolution of life).......

Before the second, first and only are the same thing
Key part being "BEFORE the second"......there is no SECOND universal solvent which expands when frozen........

How so? If there was ONE guy who went from state to state and won every lottery, I'd assume the decked was stacked in his favor......likewise, since there's ONE universal solvent which expands when frozen, regardless of the varying laws of phyisics, I assume the deck is stacked again.......

We don't know that, though. There's only one set of laws of physics we're aware of; we have no idea what things would be like in any others.

no it is not it is directly from probability theory. What who you say was the propability of the red sox winning the series.

Re: odds
You could use the exact same argument to explain away "Jesus Loves You" and a giant cross getting pounded into the moon by an asteroid shower...........you could use the exact same argument to defend ANYTHING contrary to your opinion, which is why it's circular.

YES, we do, because no other sets of physical laws would prevent matter from being like matter is here.......matter can either exist or it can not exist, and it can exist in varying forms of complexity, but it can't be DIFFERENT.......

Because then it wouldn't be matter? Rather circular, don't you think?
