Ding Dong Ashcroft's gone, the ding dong's gone!
Ashcroft resigned. Maybe Bush can find someone worse? Nahhhhh. Hopefully he'll end the war on porn as a trade off to reg'lar republicans.

Phew.
Statue boobies are safe to roam the capitol once again!
Let the boobies soar, Like they've never soared before.
From rocky coast to golden shore, let the mighty boobies soar.

Bush W. didn't ban coffin photos
Schraf - your source was innacurate (which is strange, because the Washington Post is normally reliable). From the Seattle Times: (source, also from CBS news here)
quote:
Since 1991, the Pentagon has banned the media from taking pictures of caskets being returned to the United States.
A Bush administration passed that policy, but not the W. administration. The current administration does support the policy, but didn't create it.
Later,
JT

Re: Bush W. didn't ban coffin photos
Hey JT, thanks for the links.
Schraf's Washington Post article isn't entirely inaccurate, since it appears from the CBS new article you provided that the no-photo law has seen selective enforcement depending on the political climate. I think Schraf's article was pointing out the switch to enforce the policy, since the CBS article states that the rule wasn't enforced during the Clinton adminstration and the first part of the W. adminstration.
It is obvious that the law was solely put in place for political reasons, since it's inception was spurred by the following event:
After the late 1989 invasion of Panama, the first President Bush complained about an incident in which three television networks (including CBS) broadcast split-screen images of the president speaking and coffins arriving at Dover. The president's remarks during the coffins' arrival were jocular, The New York Times reported.
The president looked bad juxtaposed next to the coffins, so such images were effectively banned.
Sadly, the W. adminstration reinforced the ban when it threatened to stir up the slightest bit of anti-war sentiment. Disgustingly, the same adminstration was willing to use similar images of flag-draped coffins in their early campaign ads, and refused to apologize or withdraw them when people complained...
It seems the adminstration is willing to bend freedom of expression in whichever way benefits them politically, depending on which way the wind blows...

That just made me think of a great compromise. From now on monuments to the ten commandments can be placed at federal court houses, as long as they include huge naked women holding them, or fellating moses while he carries them.
If there is a question of propriety, the women can always be said to represent justice, which we can signify by making sure she is blindfolded.
Yes, I will agree to that.

ashcroft out, new asshat in...
Apparently Bush's top choice for the new Attorney General, Alberto Gonzalez, is more moderate than Ashcroft. He accepts abortion and affirmative action.
However he's been working as Bush's personal counsel for years and was involved not only with Enron, but as US counsel was the guy that called Geneva Conventions antiquated. Yes it was his memos which helped set the stages for Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, by stating that if potential information is valuable enough legal rights (not to mention our humanity) should go by the way side.
Oh yeah and he also helped suppress the Cheney's energy task force documents.
Isn't their something drastically wrong with putting what is essentially one's personal defense attorney in charge of leading the prosecuting office of the Justice Department? Guess we won't ever have to worry about Cheney or Bush getting into any trouble.
Gotta make a note to myself to get buddybuddy with either Cheney or Bush asap.

And you are right clinton was not the only one to destroy our military, all you democrats before him that were president did it too along with kerry if he had been elected. We wouldn't be over streched now though, if it wasn't for clinton and his budget cuts.
Let's see, the presidents before Clinton . . . Bush, Sr. for four years, Reagan for 8 years . . . that's 12 years of Republican presidents. Yeah, blame it on the democrats, whatever.

The scary part is that Ashcroft may be positioning himself to fill a soon to be vacant Supreme Court seat. This is just speculation, but the thought scares me nonetheless.

Re: Ding Dong Ashcroft's gone, the ding dong's gone!
Actually, Ashcroft has two possible goals, the Court and a 2008 run for President.
By the way, Jerry Falwell annouced today the rebirth of the Moral Majority to specifically work towards a Fundamentalist President for 2008.

Wouldn't be surprised if Falwell positioned himself as the Fundie candidate, or position Pat Robertson for another run at the Wasp House, errr White House. Sorry, a Fundie . . . uh Freudian Slip.

This is the sort of thing that makes me reluctant to participate in political threads. Well, this and my somewhat sensitive gag reflex.
