Fox news keeps referring to the insurgents in Iraq as "terrorists".
CNN just mentioned how Fallujah is "nearly free".
...if "occupied by foreign invaders" means "free".

I must agree... This has been a pet peeve of mine since the uprising began. Many (if not most) news agencies here in central Europe (non-English speaking) use the terminology the US command uses in press conferences. So whenever there is a roadside bomb / improvised explosive device that kills or injures one or more soldiers, they talk about terrorists. Since when has attacking a military convoy by whatever means become an act of terrorism?

didn't you hear? the definitions of "war" and "terrorism" have been revised.
war is when you have a government and an army.
terrorism is when you're fighting for your own land with whatever you have around.

Similar to "battle" and "massacre" when speaking of fights between Native Americans and US troops back in the 1800's - a battle is when natives - men, women, or children - are killed. A massacre is where white folks, soldiers included, are the ones that die.

Try other networks
Watch MSNBC, or better yet NWI. I haven't heard either refer to the insurgents as terrorists; I most often hear the word 'rebels' used.
I could be wrong about MSNBC, but I don't think so unless we're talking about the opinion shows and not the straight news reporting. I certainly haven't heard this on NWI.

I noticed that too.
I also heard where they were saying that the reason they invaded Falluja was so that they could have elections ...
... and that they killed over 600 ...
... who can no longer vote?

I need to check out MSNBC a bit more, I guess. But I will not watch FOX. I have in the past and felt like I was being spoon-fed nothing but propaganda. Comparatively, CNN seems fair and balanced to me.
Personally, I have taken exception to the media's choice of words ever since the massacre at Waco, Texas. If you'll all remember, the church grounds there were continually referred to as a "compound", insinuating something kind of military. Also, the people inside were never called Christians, they were nothing but "cultists". In short, we were programmed to be against them. It really sucked. It does now, too.

RAZD, have you noticed that we're not hearing anything specific about these upcoming "elections"? No talk of candidates or platforms, just a commitment to hold "elections".
As I recall, the Soviet Union used to hold "elections".

MSNBC is my personal favorite of the American cable news networks. It's not perfect, but I don't see the bias I see at Fox News. CNN is less biased, but they seem too heavily influenced by Fox News.
Of the opinion shows, Olberman's Countdown is my favorite. Keith can be downright silly and ridiculous at times, but often his comments are dead-on and sometimes quite funny.
For straight news reporting I don't think NWI can be beat. They give complete coverage of American news but they devote a significant portion of airtime to English-language versions of foreign news broadcasts and a good dose of in-depth reports on important stories around the world. Many of the stories they cover, particularly those from Africa and Asia, are completely ignored by American news broadcasters.

Still to this day im wondering what the hell does irak have to do with 9-11. Why didnt they attack saudi arabia. Almost all hijackers were saudis. I dont know people but i am totally against this whole invasion of irak thing. I wish i had a powerful army. Then i would go and free the USA from Bush

here is an alternate news source
I found this website just this week. They have a compilation of news reports from countries in the Middle East. Some of the reports are from private news organizations and some are from government controlled outlets. It is a sobering look into how the rest of the world is getting their news about us without all the jingoism.
Link TV
They have some nice archives here:

Re: here is an alternate news source
To add to your point, Bob, there may still be many people who don't realize that Aljazeera now has a complete English-language news website. It's another great resource if you want to know what kind of news coverage Arabs are getting.

Well, now, let's be honest. They did have a fairly large arsenal of weapons. Let's not forget that the reason the BATF was there was because of weapons charges. The Branch Davidians were a paramilitary group among other things.

Also, the people inside were never called Christians, they were nothing but "cultists".
Again, let's be honest here. They were nothing like what most people would consider to be "Christian." When you have to have sex with the leader of the group, when they use a common pattern of isolation and propaganda, and when you are actively prevented from leaving, then the word "cult" does come to mind as a descriptor.

In short, we were programmed to be against them. It really sucked.
Are you saying we should have been for the forced sexual molestation of children? That's what was going on. And the parents of the children were willing particpants in the rape of their children by Koresh.
Does this mean everything that happened in Waco was justified? Of course not. I'm simply saying that it seems that you're trying to paint Koresh and the Davidians as more innocent than they were.
