Re: Creationist Admins
I did want to say one more thing, to get back to the original topic.
bear with me here...
One thing I learned when I moved in with my girlfriend is that it doesn't really matter who's right or wrong. It doesn't even matter if I'm doing something good or bad. You MUST address the emotion, whether it's rational or not.
Some of the posts here say, we're doing a good job, we try to be fair--and you know what, I believe that's true. BUT at the same time, it doesn't address the problem. There really seems to be some perception of favoritism and failure of the moderation.
The topic was brought up to address THAT issue. Rational or not, it's here, and I think it hurts the discussion. I really lose interest quite often with messy threads marred by weak argumentation, administrative pushing for better posts, and getting bogged down in this stuff.
So, I thought one solution is to make an admin for which creationist users would just listen to out of respect. They see the person posting arguemntation supporting their viewpoint, so they're confident the person is not against them. Like I said, it doesn't have to be a rational thing--we still have to address people's irrational sides.
I guess the response is that there's nobody here like that. No active posters on the creationist side who would really know how to moderate the board, and who are willing to do so.
I guess I was hoping that you might find some people that you're not confident about, but that could POSSIBLY do it, give it a try, and see what happens. Is the software able to distinguish admins by forum? That functinality would go a long way. I know you can't afford to give someone you don't trust 'admin' status for the whole system, but for one forum... I think that would be a great way to proceed under uncertainty.
Ben

Re: Creationist Admins
I Think I will put the idea on the back burner for now, unless Buz really likes the idea.
That's fine, Moose. It might be helpful for moderators to do a thread on how moderating works, what is expected, how much of it is by request, how much time it takes to do a reasonably good job of it, etc.
I don't think it's so needful for a creo mod to be supercreo as some might regard me to be. Mike the Whiz has lent me some support a couple of times when I was "under fire." He'd likely do good at it. Phatboy and Angel also seem to me like possibilities also. Angel is a newbie, but seems to be one to watch if she stays in town and would be so inclined.

Short summary
Maybe I can answer your questions or at least try to.
Almost no admin duties are by request.
It does entail reading a bunch of threads you really are not all that interested in.
It means that you have to hold off in many threads where you may have to act as a moderator, and so limits to some extent what you can say or do.

Re: Short summary
Thanks Jar. That pretty much answers my questions. I don't think it's for me. For the most part, from what I've read, I think you're doing quite well at it.
