I absolutely agree. No good can come of engaging him, and debating him only serves to validate his persecution complex.

Re: Don't respond to Chin
So, you're gonna stick your fingers in your ears and pretend you can't hear me.......nice. Yet, somehow, I am clearly the juvenile one here......right, Jack?
BTW, have I ever even DEBATED with either of you guys in the past?

Re: Don't respond to Chin
Wait, I remember debating with MrHambre about whether or not you can be an atheist and believe in love.......in which all of his replies were simply one sentence emotional, sarcastic remarks.....and I remember having a debate with MrJack that pretty much consisted of him saying "no. conciousness does not collapse the wave function."
What I'm trying to say is, I will obviously very much miss participating in our enthralling debates, and you have deeply wounded me by choosing to not engage me in further debate........

So, in order to put down my persecution complex, you're promoting that I should be censored forum-wide......good thinkin'. You're obviously a very intelligent individual.
While I'm in the process of being sarcastic, let me also state that your mother was in no way a whore.......

One of the interesting characteristics of the trolls
such as Jason Chin is their total inability to read or understand what is presented to them. It appears that they really cannot understand that the issue is their behavior not their beliefs. This is true of WILLOWTREE, Ken, Jason, JAD, and several others.
A good example is the short exchange between myself and Jason where I said I was upset that those who profess to be Christians could not follow the rules. Jason's response was a long attack that had nothing to do with what I said.
I had stated, "As a Christian, it really bothers me to see other alleged Christians that are so totally incapable of following rules. If that is typical Christian behaviour no wonder atheists think so little of us." If anyone examines those two sentences I believe they will see that they only speak of behaviour.
Jason responded by saying:
I refuse to allow my Christianity to be questioned by a man who the vast majority of Christians wouldn't even regard as a Christian......I'm not a Christian because I don't follow the rules of a site designed to promote atheistic propoganda? But, on the contrary, you who are quite clearly ashamed of your faith (if you even have any faith) is the type of man who Jesus had in mind when he said "they were faithful unto death, and I have given them a crown of life." I would spit in your face, and the face of any man who would insult me in such a fashion (much less a man like yourself), if you were present.
That shows clearly that
  1. either he did not read what I wrote.
  2. or he is incable of understanding what I wrote.
He then went on to make judgements about my beliefs (which is fine. I have never much worried about what others think of my beliefs), and into a personal attack against me. Such behaviour is never warranted and certainly does far more harm to the cause of Christianity than the theory of evolution or atheism ever could.
Some people simply do not behave in a civilized manner. It does not matter whether it is the Taliban, Al Quida, Sendero Luminoso or other fundamentalist groups, intolerance is intolerance, bigotry is bigotry, improper behaviour is improper behaviour.
It's sad.

Re: One of the interesting characteristics of the trolls
It's sad.
It is. It's also sad how there are folks like Rutherford who avoid subjecting their theories to academic peer review but sell them to those ignorant enough to believe unsubstantiated rhetoric. Those purveyors of this are simply exploitng a market, but some of their followers unable to handle academic criticism get extreme.
That being said, the trolls and fanatics here are really well behaved compared to what you find out on the usenet. You ever visited usenet groups, Jar? There are some truly demented vicious wacko's roaming out there. Makes me appreciate how gentle the trolls and wackos that post here are. I really think Kendemeyer for example is simply misguided and rationally impaired but his zeal though often annoying is sincere. Chin is a guy who wants to get nasty but again displays more self control than the psychos out in the usenet.

Are you kidding? I remember well when the third alt newsgroup was initiated. LOL

Re: Don't respond to Chin
The problem with IP bans are that they might very well also impact other existing or potential members. Especially if using partial IP's, which are the most effective at stopping the Jason Chin type problem.
So we suspend and ban. Jason has to come up with a new e-mail address every time he re-registers.

Re: 12 step program for internet discussion addiction?
I don't think the Google groups go back much before the mid 90's. I know there are some posts of mine in the various Google comp groups from the late 90's but I don't know where any of the stuff from way back in the mid 80's is still archived. Also there are many from other jars, there was a JaR IIRC that wasn't me and some flame called jar-jar that was a pain in the butt.
If you look through them and it seems like a reasonable post I'll take credit for it, all others were someone else.

With yahoo giving out free email accounts and dodgeit.com, I really don't see how you can stop him from doing this until he becomes bored.

Re: Don't respond to Chin
He is probably on DHCP.
It is not like his behavior is not documented, "you cant stop me admins!".
Send a cease and desist to his ISP. This is harrassment plain and simple.
Or, if you can block e-mails it could just make it a little harder. IPs are much easier to come by than emails although emails are pretty easy to come by now adays too. Argh. I don't know. Just let the little bugger struggle to come back with the loophole called the internet, wasting his time, and providing a momentary chuckle as he gets banned again and again. If he is really that persistent then my original idea will have a lot of weight with his ISP.
