I know that I shouldn't be saying this, but I belive whales to have a different kind of intelligence similar to humans, as well as elephants and primates Would you care to elaborate on this?

Not so fast!
Don't accept too much too quickly. Turn it over in your head a lot. Think about it a lot: can you find something that feels wrong or doesn't make sense to you? Decide, for yourself, why you will tentatively accept something as reasonable to take as right.

Don't rush it and...
don't assume that once you change your mind it will stay changed. Life's like that. In the ninth grade I wrote a briliant paper proving that GOD did not exist. Unfortunately, in the tenth grade I was asked to write a briliant paper defending my position. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Well, whale songs change. Elephants cry when one of their number dies, and when they come across the place or body of the lost member, they morn. Some types of primates morn for their dead also. Some mothers will carry around their dead infants for weeks, trying to feed and take care of it until it is too deformed to continue pretending.

I understand that my ideas and opinions will change many, many times before I even become an adult.

Clever.
Better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.

In a couple thousand generations from now, would you expect that humanity as we know it will no longer exist, because all of us would be some kind of mutant branching off from what we are now?

Moose, It's just some Clash lyrics, TheClashFan knows this. There's no offense, unless were getting snooty at some rude words. Mark

some context: Every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world And ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl Love 'n' hate tattooed across the knuckles of his hands The hands that slap his kids around 'cause they don't understand How death or glory becomes just another story How death or glory becomes just another story 'N' every gimmick hungry yob digging gold from rock 'n' roll Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold But i believe in this - and it's been tested by research That he who fucks nuns will later join the church From every dingy basement on every dingy street I hear every dragging handclap over every dragging beat That's just the beat of time - the beat that must go on If you been trying for years - then we already heard your song - Death Or Glory This message has been edited by contracycle, 11-23-2004 05:19 AM

Incidentally, I tentatively agree with ClashFan that elephants and whales probably have very similar subjective experiences of consciousness as humans. I recognises this unprovable at present, but as I see it is is a more reasonable view than the idea that human consciousness is quantitatively or qualitatively unique. quote: But my cats kill for fun. Wasn't your point that they had LOST their instincts? Wasn't your point also that animals don't kill without a reason?
They kill to stay in practice, which they experience as fun. That is a reason.
