Yeah, folks. I've been at Al-Udeid for about 48 hours now. It's nice and quiet, no rockets or mortars; I've got no work, old friends popping out of the woodwork (small world, my career field), and a flight home tomorrow. Oh, and the 3-beer daily limit is no problem for me. Almost half a year dry will do that do ya

Yee hah! Welcome home, Zephyr!
When I pulled outa Basra they all wished me luck
Like they always did before
With a bulletproof screen on the hood of my truck
And a Bradley on my back door
So I wound her up and shifted her down
And I offered this prayer to my lord
I said God, get me back home to Houston alive
And I won’t drive a truck anymore
-Home To Houston by Steve Earle

Esteban Hambre

Good to hear everything is ending well. Since it appears your role in that historical "achievement" is at an end, and as the stereotype goes you will now have something to say to your grandchildren when they ask "where were you?" or "what did you do during?"... I'm wondering what that is exactly?
What singular anecdote, though you may have more, sums up your experience there and you'll end up sharing with friends and family for the rest of your life?
Oh, and did you get anything more than a lousy t-shirt?

Zephyr
I suppose you will find a place to live that is as far away from sand as you can get for awhile eh? Welcome back old man and thank you for the effort. If you ever go slumming in the Great White North be sure to drop a line.

I hope the sands of Biloxi Beach will be more to zephyr's taste.
Thanks for everything you've done, zeph. Even though I don't support this war, I support you guys 1000%. I've got friends and relatives in Iraq. One of my life-long closest friends just got back from Afghanistan a few weeks ago.
If you're ever in Vicksburg on a Saturday night, you should drop into Borrello's. It's where all the local liberals hang out; I think you'd like it. You might even see me there, I'll be the one with the wierd looking little dog.

Dog is my copilot.

Hi again, all.
Just got home. Still dealing with culture shock, somewhat. Be back soon....

Welcome back,Zeph. if there`s one thing I guess you want to shake it`s the dust of Iraq. Every account I`ve read of the campaign there never fails to mention the ever-present dust, so I figure you`ll drop into a river, lake or ocean till you feel clean again.
