Re: Pick up at the other BoM thread ?
Besides, who do you think that God should look like?
That's easy.
She's fairly short, dark hair in a pony tail and big eyes. Slim, no earings, smallbreasts, small ass, small feet and a wiggle when she walks and a giggle when she talks and that's what makes the world go 'round.

Re: Question
You know what, you've answered my questions.
It's so hard to tell whether people are condemning god in here sometimes, or whether they are truly seeking answers.
It seems like you've studyed pretty hard to find out what you know, and it also seems like you would do the things that God wants you to do as long as you knew you were getting them from the correct source (God).
Anyways, leave me another thread.
(by the way yes, I do understand that Satan serves the Lord's purpopes by testing men, I know how that works.)
and as far as I'm concerned about any members of the God-head, the three main Entities are Organized as follows:
Heavenly Father
Jesus Christ
The Holy Ghost.
Anybody else is underneath that working order as heirs to their salvation in the Kingdom of God, and also as Servants of God, and The Children of God, to become as God is, and that is as Gods, (as God is).
so yes, as well as the Repentant will enter into their Salvations to become Gods as God is, they will never quite reach the Caliber of God because he will always still be their God.

Re: Question

well, you'll be even more confused by my newest thread, then.
answers are hard to find. i've found that the more answers i find, and the closer i get to god, the mroe i know how far away i really am.
i do respect the mormon faith, apart from the books. the best church i have ever been to was LDS.

i've been toying with the idea of unity with god, like in marriage. all of man toegther and all of god. not sure what i think of it. most christians would call that blasphemy, but i think there's some backing to it. mormons tend to be more receptive to the idea. your thoughts?

Arach,
Have you read any eastern thought? From what I've read on this forum you have a deep grounding in western Judeo Christian beliefs.
One major theme in the east is to look for the divine in the present moment in the present experience/self rather than to look to an authority from another time and place. The idea of the ego being either exalted, saved, made immortal is not held, rather the consciousness that takes itself to be the shifting organism awakens to it's real unborn nature that was never separate from the source.
I realize that Indian and eastern thought lacks appeal to many westerners but as you seem to be looking at alternatives to the mainstream conceptions I thought I would inquire as to your thoughts about the nondual conceptions.
Joeseph Smith seems to have added in some ideas that were fashionable in his times to his largely Judeo Christian based Book of Mormon. I don't think Smith either claimed or demonstrated that he was awakened. I agree with those who characterize him as a pious fraud.
I once heard a computer science type characterize the Mormon church as having awesome social engineering. He meant it respectfully as he was dating a Mormon girl at the time. I would like to ask setting aside questions of theology what about the Mormon life style or social order do you find so appealing, and could those elements be abstracted and applied to other religions or even in other non religious settings?

Re: Question
As far as I can see,Ifen, all these churches, from mainline, to splinter, to fundy are power structures. You toe the line or you get the boot. So much for preaching love. While seeking the true message might be the ideal, what does organisational structure have to do with finding God? Even certain Eastern religions enforce the rules (Buddhist monks, for example)

Re: Question

I think it's more that God and the scriptures of the sect are used to support the social unit, mores, rules, customs, etc.
I wasn't specific enough. Religions have authority and need funding of one sort or another. I think Robertson and Falwell as individuals are in the religion business to gratify their desire for personal power rather than a desire to help fellow humans.
Societies need rules and they can be ad hoc. In the Buddhist monastic orders there are attempts at correction. The rules seemed to in some cases arise to handle abuses. I read this rule that brought the situation vividly to life. It was forbidden for monks to hide a piece of meat or desirable food under their rice in order to fool the servers into giving them more. That had to have arisen because monks were going through the serving line and had come up with this dodge.
I think the big punishment was loss of seniority. You had to be really flagrant to get kicked out. I don't have a problem with that but then I'm not a monk. Societies all have rules and consequences. And from my work with children it's really worse when those rules and consequences don't exist.

sort of. i think of true judaism as eastern, though.

the gnostics are similar. i like them, i think.

taoism interests me, actually.
Joeseph Smith seems to have added in some ideas that were fashionable in his times to his largely Judeo Christian based Book of Mormon. I don't think Smith either claimed or demonstrated that he was awakened. I agree with those who characterize him as a pious fraud.
claimed, yes. demonstrated, no.
I once heard a computer science type characterize the Mormon church as having awesome social engineering. He meant it respectfully as he was dating a Mormon girl at the time. absolutely.
they have a more congregation-focused service. while they have a strict hierarchy (something i have mixed feelings about), the show isn't about any one man. instead, many people of the congregation come up and say things. it wasn't like in some christian churches i've been too, where everyone wanted to be a star so much that people on stage outnumbered the audience. it was more of a de-centralized service.
i also liked the austere surroundings (no iconography in any form) and how the focus was more on god than jesus. in christian churches, jesus and paul seem to be at head of everything, and i think their priorities are really mixed up.
theologically, doubting and questioning seem to be more accepted (unless it questions origins of the bom, curiously).
and, as i mentioned, the people are also friendly.

I knew someone who went to Friends Meetings and that sounds something like what they described. I don't know if Quakers are as friendly though I was given to understand they were non judgemental, but that is not the same thing exactly, more reserved I think.

Re: Question
My thoughts are that you are a good, man(women), lol, whoever you are.. you seek for true answers of God, and that is what's truly going to get you back to him.....
as for the Christians thing, there are many in this world who proclaim to follow God, but only the people who are truly following him can truly say that they follow him.... I think you probably get what I mean. We know that if God truly exists, that he will make himself known to those who TRULY seek him, and TRULY love him, and TRULY want to do what he would want them to do, He's GOD, He Loves them......
If you want to be with God so badly, and you work your hardest to try to find out the answers that he wants you to know, there is no way in heaven that Heavenly Father would ever leave you in darkness, he created you, he loves you, he's your Father, he is who CREATED YOUR SPIRIT!!!!! NOT JUST YOUR BODY.... He is the all creator, and he loves everyone, and serves any of those who truly desire to follow Him.....
We are just as much his Children as Jesus Christ is, It's just that we haven't been called to serve the way that Jesus Christ was called to serve, he was called to serve as our Redeemer, without him, we could never get back to Heaven....
Time has run short for me, I will continue this thread later, think about what I've said and go ahead and give me a reply, take care... later...

Nothing like some good ole' "judge not lest ye be judged" to spice up the conversation. Sure is nice of you to condemn someone to hell, especially considering you are God. Oh wait.....

I'm just repeating what God would say, so therefore I'm not judging them with my judgements, but the one's that God has already sent forth out upon them. God never said to >not< "Judge this day whom ye will serve", instead, he only said "DO NOT JUDGE {UNDERLINED} UNRIGHTEOUSLY.", but then again, "Don't judge for yourself, but only remember what I've (The Lord), has said."
So there you have it, they will never make it through the Gates of Heaven until they care about God. And if they do not care about God, they will never make it through the Gates of Heaven. Either way, They're screwed.
