The "Peek" function and the "Proposed Topics" archive
Using Firefox - When I left click on "Peek" (see raw text), nothing happens. If I right click and then select either "open in new window" or "open in new tab", it works fine. BTW, perhaps "Raw Text" is still a better name for that function
Are the "Proposed Topics" archives going to be restored? Currently there is nothing there. Being the database obsesive that I am, I was catching up on the "Proposed Topics" history from the archive info (I missed a lot of them in the normal record keeping because they get deleted before being caught in "All Topic" page saves). I had entered (I think) through page 5 of 9 of the index pages. Alas, I didn't anticipate these changes and I didn't bother doing saves of those pages. Or perhaps if you saved them, you could e-mail me them.
Also, dBCodes help still not working.

You may find we no longer need this list. If you go the All Topics page you'll see that the page numbers go up to 111, right back to the beginning of 2001!
You could get that before, by selecting "Show All Topics". Either way, it's not a sorted (other than by topic activity) or sortable list, nor is it filterable. Still think the ol' database is damn handy.
BTW, I keep the database in a .r2d extension file. See how sharp you are - What software uses that file extension?

The return of the dreaded "quote reply"
I note that we have the "quote reply" back. Remember what a mess is could and did cause back in the "good old days"?
There's a hint of such here.
Also, haven't checked - Do the internal links to other topics/messages still work?

*** Page numbers in URL's/Links!!! - Critical item? ***
How can you have uniform page numbers when everyone can set a preference to how many messages per page? One persons page 2 could be another persons page 4.
How do you link to a message on a page, when some people may not have that page with that message?
IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE THE SAME MESSAGES PER PAGE FOR EVERYONE. THE OLD 15 PER PAGE IS NICE.

I've added the peek/Firefox bug to the list.
I don't know if I blotched my original observation or what, but the "peek" is all around working correctly now.
As pointed out elsewhere, I think the messages per page setting may be a critical item, as it (seemingly) would effect whether links to specific messages on specific pages will work.
I still need to complete the last pre-software change update of the database, complete with old style URL's. Will run a copy by you for a translation attempt later. BTW - the .R2D extension is for the Borland Reflex version 2 database software (DOS based / pre-windows!). Still use it all the time for various databases I keep.
I seem to have noted that the new system can require that you be logged in in some fashion, in order to view anything. I wonder if this is going to cause Google problems, in their webcrawling efforts?
Cheers, keep up the good work, the forum hasn't imploded yet, but I have faith in you .

Testing etc.
Percy - See and try all the links, including my "signature", in message 1 at:
General discussion of moderation procedures (aka "Change in Moderation? Part 2")
All those links were created to link to the beginnings of the topics. Now they are linking to the page 6's of the topics, at least 1 of which doesn't exist.
Will here post my current signature, for other explorations. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th links of the signature are suposed to be the same as their counterparts in the message cited above.
Adminnemooseus
ps: OK, in preview, my current "signature" is a formatting mess. Will post it anyway.

Re: Testing etc.
Interesting. For the first 4 links in the current signature mess, I can open the old versions of the topics.
Adminnemooseus
Added by edit: Initial testing of my current signature can be found here. Everything fine there.
2nd edit: Signature shut off, had to turn on again.
3rd edit: OK, I deliberately initially never turned it on in this message. Turning off again.

Setting message order at your profile
It is now possible to set both the number per page and the order for both topics and messages pages.
See your "Profile", link towards the upper left of most to all pages.
Go to bottom of profile page.
Set "Message Display Order" to chronological.

"Topic Proposals" name change
I have just changed the archive forum "Topic Proposals" to be "Topic Proposals Archive".
Offhand, I sure like the old archiving system better.

Re: Visible email in profile, but non-visible email in message
I checked Ben's examples - Right now the e-mail address is private in both locations. My guess is that the profile page was updated (removing the e-mail address) and the page had then not yet been updated.
In the old software, and apparently in the new also, the e-mail addresses can be hidden at both the message pages and at the profile pages. This is the case even if the viewer has some sort of admin status, up to and including Director. At least that's the case for me.
Admins, however, do have other accesses to all member e-mail address's, even those hidden on the public pages. I have on occassion used that special access to try to recruite a new admin person.

Forum not accepting "General Replies"
I have successfully posted a "Reply to Message" at a topic, but the same topic will not accept a "General Reply".

Re: suggestion

Looks like message 129 was deleted - I have no idea why.
My guess (and it is very much a guess) is that it was an AdminPhat/Phatboy message, and he was the one who deleted it. This is largely based on the fact that Phatboy posted message 130.
If so, I don't know if it was deliberate or by accident, but AdminPhat's admin inexperience may be behind it.
I remind all admins, that it is forum policy that no messages get deleted, or even edited for content, by the admins. For such things as duplicate postings, the content may be blanked out, and a note such as "Duplicate posting, content deleted" inserted.
This is to keep the message number sequence complete, to try our best to show that censorship is not happening.
