Poster: Mammuthus Forum: Boot Camp Thread: Poll on the PEH Post: #9 The Hairy Elephantid makes a very thorough and well-referenced post calling into question the basic assumptions of the PEH. Even tho' mostly a response to criticism posted on another message board, this rebuttal/response is a good example of how to use science to oppose pseudo-science.

Seconding jar's nomination of the whole thread Message 1 Many contributors share in this accolade, but I would just like to mention Glenn Morton. Glenn does not contribute here, but his material figures prominantly in the thread. Glenn is an ex-YEC, a working geologist, and an evangelical Christian advocate of an inerrant Genesis. This last bit gets a odd at times, but I quibble. His geological presentations are first rate, and perhaps because of his Christian stance he may be the single most effective apologist I have ever seen for conventional science to young earth creationist Christians. A very clear example by Genger
Message 153Genger shows how science including the quantitative approach needed can be used to reduce the uncertainty in an issue. In this case he makes it very clear what is necessary to really discuss this. Arm waving simply does not cut it. Way to go, only 15 posts and a POTM already. I wish my ratio was 1% of that. So basically you would be sitting in your fields tending your sheep when you suddenly find the ground beneath you grinding the flesh off your bones from the friction as you are now moving across it at 450 mph. The pain would be short lived as you quickly slam into a nearby hillside as it is turning into slag from the heat produced by inertial forces.

Poster: Percy Forum: Education and Creation/Evolution Thread: Media Coverage of the Evolution Controversy Post: #10 Although I invariably read everything Percy writes as he consistently presents well-reasoned and cogent arguments on many subjects (as well as being able to clearly see the gist of a multi-page thread - trees AND forest), I never quite get around to proposing him for a POM. This particular post, however, strikes me as a brilliant dissection of the current ID controversy. It is, all by itself, worthy of being used in a science classroom as an answer to whomever might mention the "balance" or "equal time" arguments about why ID should be included in classrooms. This post should be submitted to NCSE for inclusion on their website, IMO.
