My life has gotten too busy of late to spend time on this forum. Browsing the new book section of my local library I found this small 257 page book by a scholar at UCLA. I've just skimmed the book enough to decide to check it out.
I'm particularly interested if Brian or Jar has an opinion about the author's scholarship and if he perhaps has read it or other works by Schniedewind, but I welcome views from anyone else on this forum.
thank you,
lfen

Re: Bump for Brian and Jar
Hi Ifen,
I have only read one of his articles, it was in BASOR and it was about the Tel Dan Stele, I don't remember that much about it. But I am not that familiar with his work. Finkelstein recommends this book you have mentioned and I notice that the uni library has it as well, so I will pick it up on Wednesday and give you a shout.
What I remember is that he is reputable, and not one of the usual kooks.
Brian

I've never read the book you mention but I have read several of his articles. He does a good job of making the periods when parts of the Bible were written clear and vibrant. In particular his grasp of the politics of the period and their effect on the contents of the Bible are reasonable.
