I would hate either scenario
I'm quite sure that back in those so called "Good old days" the vast majority of folk simply repeated the party line to get by. I would sincerely hope that in both cases the majority of people would just agree to say what is needed.

Weddings...the Bride meets Godzilla

I'm sure they will later appreciate that support. That is a great thing to do and I applaud your actions.
You are such a loveable Texan! I had a vision of the scripture references to the Bride...the church...the called out ones...meeting Jesus.
I also remember where you talk of actions speaking louder than words.
Finally, I saw how the atheists in this post respect their friends enough to attend church, and I saw in a moment how God uses your gentle Texas love to bring them there.
It makes me no less passionate about my beliefs, but it humbles me.
I now begin to see why you abhor fundamentalism.
Fundamentalist (religious Right types) claim to be speaking for God, but when people see them spouting rhetoric it appears less like God and more like Godzilla!

I bet you feel all unique when you're sat in church refuting the priest in your head? I bet you think, "hah - what a load of bullony, get on with the communion I'm hungry". "Hah - silly fallacy he's just made".
Speaking as an atheist, one finds that since one was doing that before anyway, it's not all that hard to go back
Go back to what?> Church? Doctrines of men?
The last time I went to church I was 10.
It seems that many people think that they know what belief is. Not many here understanding about the real-life belief that makes us denounce the nihilistic persuasions of this barren land of meditators of emptiness and thei increasing secularistic confusions pertaining to the silly thought that one can out-think God.
