For April, 2005 (as per previous months):
quote:
Please post your votes for the April, 2005, Posts of the Month here. Include author, forum name, thread name, post number, eg:
Name: Velvet Tongue
Forum: Biological Evolution
Thread: I'm no monkey
Post #: 17
A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice.
I think that a fairly liberal use of this topic would be a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic.
New month, same old message and routine,
Adminnemooseus

Berberry is no April fool
Name: Berberry
Forum: Bits & Bites/announcements
Thread:Buzsaw Permanently Suspended
Post: 78
Berberry is at the opposite of the political spectrum from myself, yet we get along. It is classic how he and holmes go at it, although they seem privately nitpicking and I never understand those posts much. In THIS post, however, berberry cuts through the B.S. and offers a concise and proper eulogy for Buzsaw. Shows us a bit of how berberrys Dad must have been, also!

Re: Berberry is no April fool
Thank you very much for that, Phat. I opened this thread to make a nomination of my own, which I will do in my next post, but I wanted to tell you that you've made my day!

prophex is no slouch
prophex has jumped into a debate that went a bit over his head. He made a lot of irresponsible statements that he couldn't back up, but unlike most people here on both sides of the debate he had the balls to own up to that fact and retract the problem statements. I was impressed with that and felt that he deserved some sort of recognition, but there was no particular post in that thread that stood out and would allow me to nominate him without any possibility of embarrasing him. But elsewhere I see a post that shows that when prophex knows what he's talking about, he's no slouch at debating.
In the thread GOD Bless John Paul II, prophex had expressed an interest in seeing some of the ancient books housed in vatican libraries. Lam's provocatively worded response expressed a desire to also see those books, in order to find information about people the Catholic church has killed and about cultures they've destroyed and are continuing to destroy. prophex gave a near-perfect comeback. The last two sentences were the ones that truly impressed me.

My brother told me about this the other day, Thanks. :-)

Yeah, yeah, I know that some people won't consider this to be appropriate for POTM, but I felt that Dan made his point about freedom of conscience succinctly and humorously. And if people who only give lip service to religious freedom are offended, so much the better.

Thank you, and here's hoping Moose's eyes don't spontaneously start bleeding when he sees that the post was nominated.

I suspect many will feel this post wasn't anything special but I really appreciated it. A good illustration of the dishonesty (and sloppiness) of organisations like the Idea Center.

The POTM topics are absolutely NOT the place to be debating the cited topic/message.

Contracycle on the problem of the mainstream media

Thread: Is the Present Government Hurting U.S. Democracy with Fake News?
Post #: 28
They used to say that journalism was the first draft of history, recordings of impressions before analysis. But now there is no first draft, merely repetition, on the basis that the viewer is to be left to make their own choice. As such, journalism no longer plays an investigative, socially valuable role.

Anyway I don't talk to anti-semites.
the last bit is especially funny if anyone's ever debated religion with me here. i consistently have taken the judaic perspective in every debate except one recently with jar.
anyways, i'm rather enjoying the debate crash and i are having. it's an interesting subject, but it's getting to the point of being laughable. i love when people show the calibre of their debating skills in this manner, especially when accusing others of the same thing. it's also entertaining to see someone get this worked up over consistently being owned from every direction.
i believe i shall quote crashfrog himself when he said "we're all creationists about something."
good times.

Both Crashfrog and Arachnophilia suspended
The POTM forum is not the place to gripe about another member. Start a "Suggestion and Questions" topic, or e-mail an admin.
But now that you've pointed it out to me, I will take some action.
My impression is that both of you are behaving pretty stupid. You both get to take an mandatory break.
