Has anyone else noticed the propensity of famous people to get killed in air disasters? Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, John Denver, Aaliyah Haughton (R & B singer and actresskilled, Marsh Harbour, Bahamas), The entire Manchester United footy team, Tony Bettenhausen (Race car driver Tony Bettenhausen killed, Leesburgh, Kentucky), Payne Stewart (Pressurization failure, Pro golfer Payne Stewart killed, Aberdeen, South Dakota).
Anyone add to that list?
Someone is lying to us about air safety, or has it in for celebrities......

My theory is that the presence of famous people destabilizes aircraft. I think the mechanism is that the huge rolls of cash on the persons of these famous people throws off the plain's center of gravity. As a solution, I propose that any famous person on board must distribute said huge roll of cash among the other passengers.

Me too. It would make no sense to assassinate -- as it seems you imply -- someone over a senate vote that makes no difference to the outcome.
This reply isn't really specificly aimed at John, but his message did have that above line.
Even if he were the only one, I think Paul Wellstone had the potential of being a very prominent voice against the march to war.
In light of the truly strange situation we currently find ourselves in, I don't find it inconceivible that some force behind the scenes would find it in their interests to bump off a gung-ho, loud mouthed, leftest U.S. senator, who was showing a good chance of being re-elected.

I don't find it inconceivable, moose, just not very likely and by a lot. Unless the man had power and connections that have remained hidden, it seems like a waste of effort to waste him.

Are you exhorting me to be naive, or were you just stoned when you wrote that?

Buddy Holly, Big Bopper
Ritchie Valens (La Bamba etc.) was on the same plane that crashed in Clear Lake Iowa.
The entire Manchester United footy team
Only eight of them - nine other players on the flight survived. The rest of the twenty three dead were eight journalists, three club officials, the co-pilot, a travel agent, a steward and a supporter.
Nit picking aside I wonder if it's just a combination of the fact that some celebrities tend to fly more than members of the public coupled with the amount of coverage there is when they crash that creates a perception that celebs die more frequently in plane crashes.

The Tigers roared in Dublin - and I was there.

Maybe rich people are just too important to bother with the preflight checklist. Most of these are private flights, not commercial airliners.
