I actually brought it up in the same conversation. I also stipulated that we have yet to find a fossil of a coelecanth that is younger than 60 million years old even though there is a species of coelecanth alive today, which seems to indicate that the observed fossil record is very incomplete. Took some of the wind out of his sails.
