Okay, number one: I am a Christian, and I'm also new to this forum. Okay. Anyway, on to the point:
My father is also a Christian, and he's fallen toward the lunatic fringe. He recieves emails every day that range from the wacky to the demented. (Examples: Pig meat is evil and can kill you, the Russians have forcefield technology and will kill us all, George Bush is communing with Satan, Milk is also evil and will kill you, and oil drillers recently tunneled into Hell.)
Who here believes this stuff? I sure don't, but I just wondered...
Oh, and another semi-related thing: Would forcefield technology be possible? I say no, because it would be nearly impossible to direct most forms of energy into a plane, curving or otherwise.

Yeah, but-
The one about Russian forcefields always gets me though. They mentioned stuff about Tesla carbines and junk, but I just laughed it off.
Might there be a grain of truth to it? I know tasers can sometimes project electricity...

And of course there are also verses about cross-pollination that describe how God told the Israelites how to correctly plant crops.
quote:
Something like: And if the seed from the wheat should fall upon the squash, and likewise the squash will taste as wheat.
In any case, there are more unexplainable CORRECT things found in the Bible than there are falsehoods (Most of which are really from the knowledge of the time and credited to the Bible because it is iconic of that era. The Bible, to my knowledge, never said squat about how to correctly heal leprosy or about unicorns and stuff.)
...And I also agree with Mr. Moderator Person. Let's end this Bible discussion and get back to the nutballs who wil believe anything. I just had to get my 2 cents in first.

Re: Yeah, but-
Well, there are ways to make that work.
My theory:
Telomeres are junk DNA on the ends of chromosomes. In humans, they cause cancer indirectly. Because the RNA particles that 'read' DNA have to start about three parts before the start and end of DNA, every time a cell replicates is becomes a little shorter.
When the telomeres run out, it starts cutting off real DNA and thus causes cancer.
(Lung cancer is really when the tar kills cells, the surviving ones replicate to make up for it, and the new cells don't have enough telomeres.)
In any case, using telomeres on a bacteria would be an effective way to make them 'time out' after only a couple thousand generations.
But the advent of planes and fast transportation would eliminate the gaurantee that it wouldn't spread to the USSR as well.
