Many months ago, "The Great Debate" forum was redefined as being the place for special, moderated, judged, etc. debate. Since that time, there has only been one attempt at doing such. Many topics, however, have been started in "The Great Debate" forum, which really didn't belong there. Especially recently, these topics have been copied/moved to other forum.
Essentially, "The Great Debate" forum is a relict of the past. It has been decided to close this forum to the posting of new topics by members. Topics can now only be started by administrators.
If a member finds that he/she wishes that there be a new "Great Debate" topic - Please contact an admin (Admin, Adminnemooseus, Adminquility, or AdminTC), to propose the new topic.

debating on c/e boards
it was also not possible for me to see it happen on the MSN creation and evolution board to find debates take a front seat despite the inherent need to find that the discursive isolation does not dominate seperation either way yet this did not happen there so it is no(t) suprise to me that it could not also not occurr here.

It would be nice (for newbies like me) if the rules for this forum were outlined.
Edit: (I'm assuming the special rules still apply)

The only real attempt at a "Great Debate" (I believe) was "Buddika & TrueCreation's Flood topic, at http://EvC Forum: Buddika & TrueCreation's Flood Topic -->EvC Forum: Buddika & TrueCreation's Flood Topic
There was also the side topic, at http://EvC Forum: Buddika & TrueCreation's Flood Topic - Parallel Thread -->EvC Forum: Buddika & TrueCreation's Flood Topic - Parallel Thread
The whole concept of a "Great Debate" is pretty clumsy and poorly defined. I guess all that I can say, is that if you wish to go "one on one" against another member on some topic, post the request/challenge in this topic, and we'll see what happens.

Great Debate - Testimony vs Science
Dear Admin,
The largest debate is between Evo and Creationists that believe in Earth age being only 7000 yrs (+/- a few thousand).
Yes, Intelligent Design is next on the list, but I think a direct focus on one at a time is needed.
I have been looking in the forums for discussion on the foundation of the discord between Cre's and Evo's, and although I have found some good stuff, they still all dance around the real issue, IMO: Putting faith in testimony (via the Bible) over deductive/inductive logic from science.
To me, this is the Great Debate, because all the other forums about Cre vs Evo derive from this fundamental worldview.

I'd like to start one
Hey - this forum is pretty dead. Too bad.
I'd like to start one titled 'Big Bang and Stellar Evolution'.
I just figured I'd get a Moderator okay first.
So can I? Huh? Pleasepleaseplease huh can I?

...it was like that when I got here.

Re: I'd like to start one
All topic proposals should be made in [forum=-25]. Just mention in the proposal that you'd like it to be a Great Debate.

Re: I'd like to start one
also, keep in mind that a great debate is essentially picking a fight. it'd be between you and only one other specified member.

Short Course on life at EvC
There are several ways to start a discussion here. The first is Proposed New Topics. You can create a message there on a subject you feel worthy of debate. The Admins will then help you refine the idea, make suggestions they believe will help keep the discussion focused. When it's ready it will get promoted to one of the major forums.
The second is a Great Debate. It is normally between two people and limited to only those two. Admins may step in at time to moderate or assist but do not take part in the subject.
The third are just general topics, chatter. The Coffee House is the place for that. If you want to just talk about food or clothing or the weather, it's the place. Anyone can start a new thread there.
One caution. If you start a thread in the Coffee House that should really be in one of the named forums, it will be moved back to PNT for approval. We have to do this to make sure folk don't use the Coffee House as a way around the Proposed New Topic procedure.
Finally, if you have a link to something of general interest, you can put it in the Links forum. These are meant to be informative and we discourage debate on the links.
Glad you found your way home and hope you enjoy your stay.

New Members should start HERE to get an understanding of what makes great posts.
