Shraff, can you provide some shapter and verses first? It seems this is a misleading paragraph, I wish I could adress but for the admin warning.
So I can only say that the moon does give light that it has been imparted. I could call your garden, "your land" or "God's earth". The NT shows mental illness and demonic posession are different things because it mentions both. Dragons are dinosaurs. I can't adress all of these claims but they are misleading, read this because we're off topic; Mikey's irrefutable bible truths

Amadameus writes: If there were a grain of truth to any top secret weapon technology, chances are that it would be the United States.(The Great Satan itself) who would possess such technology. The one about Russian forcefields always gets me though. They mentioned stuff about Tesla carbines and junk, but I just laughed it off.Might there be a grain of truth to it? I know tasers can sometimes project electricity... I am a bit more whacko than the purely scientific minds here, but I think that if some conspiricy of Biblical prophecy were to be detected, it would be detected and discerned by many people and not just by one guy on his private mission.

quote: Today, yes, but not 20 years ago. When the USSR was up and running, it had a very high level of technology, arguably higher in certain instances than the US. For example, much of the space-based weapons programmes diverged from starting assumptions and produced different developed technologies - kinetic kill weapons for the USA and ground-based lasers for the USSR. The USSR had the only ground-based laser capable of disabling a satellite, and spinoffs of this developed technology included the laser eye surgery treatment that was first exported to the third world in the 80's (including Cuba) and subsequently expoerted to the West in the 90's. Soviet combat aircraft are/were probably a generation, or a generation and a half, ahead of their American counterparts. One of the best examples was the duel pickup targetting system built into the MiG-29, using active radar in a 60 degree cone and nested passive heat sensor with a 30 degree cone. The USA and USSR had different approaches to technology, and developed different specialisations. But I think the perception that there was a qualitative distinction is false.

And of course the Soviet Biopreparat program had to be conceived by nutcases. Who would use biological weapons for which there was no cure? Are they still pursuing a smallpox-Ebola weapon?

Well, there are ways to make that work.
My theory: Telomeres are junk DNA on the ends of chromosomes. In humans, they cause cancer indirectly. Because the RNA particles that 'read' DNA have to start about three parts before the start and end of DNA, every time a cell replicates is becomes a little shorter. When the telomeres run out, it starts cutting off real DNA and thus causes cancer. (Lung cancer is really when the tar kills cells, the surviving ones replicate to make up for it, and the new cells don't have enough telomeres.) In any case, using telomeres on a bacteria would be an effective way to make them 'time out' after only a couple thousand generations. But the advent of planes and fast transportation would eliminate the gaurantee that it wouldn't spread to the USSR as well.

quote: I think we should call this the Ron Wyatt Principle. It is the same logic that was used to discern the mental state of the late Mr. Wyatt, and it applies here as well. After all, when someone claims to have seen the Ark of the Covenant, Noahs Ark, and several other biblical artifacts and they have no evidence to back it up you have to wonder if that someone iss not a walking tabloid. If I were to dream up of a perfect EvC Tabloid Headline, it would read: "Ron Wyatts Face Found On Joseph's Ossuary".

quote: I don't understand why one would feel passionately about man's landing on the moon. The reasoning behind the unreplied posts are obviously because of some form of "lack of evidence". Scientific evidence is very difficult to argue against, one would probably feel better about not arguing at all. There are only a few exceptions to the rule here. Have you seen the conspiracy theory on 9/11? It's interesting, blaming not just the current administration, but many for countless "unexplainable" events. It circles to one man who makes these shows, who is to my knowledge believed to have faith in Islam. He recently talked at a school nearby, in New Paltz, New York. Which was frightening. The show aired on an no-name channel, which is local I think. Creationists really don't deserve to be put in the spotlight for not responding to scientific evidence, when one, they are not the only ones, and two, they rarely can combat such evidence, and usually stick with faith, belief, morals, and philosophy because of this deficiency. The above relation with the 9/11 subject and creationists is not to be read as proof for others who do not reply, but just another interesting conspiracy theory, when researched lacks evidence. It's easier to dream, then to realize truths. Especially when those things that may seem to be truths conflict with one's belief in something that they may have a deep love for. Thanks for giving me the oppurtunity to leech knowledge off of all you guys.

What do you mean by "ad hoc"? "Ad hoc" is Latin for "for this [purpose]" and it's used to describe modifications or additions to a proposed explanation, for which the only "evidence" or support offered for that addition is the failure of explanation to hold up without it. For instance, I might explain gravity with an explanation about angels pushing down on people's shoulders, and when you ask "well, if that's true, how come we can't see the angels?" My response "because they're invisible" is an ad-hoc explanation because the only evidence that these angels are invisible is the fact that otherwise, my theory about angels can't explain why you can't see them.

quote: I agree. It is even harder to support what you think is truth. It is hard to admit when you may be wrong. To get back to the OP, it is easier to dream of untestable reasons why you are right and ignore the most damning evidence.

quote: quote: I was thinking about the world, is scientific evidence for worldly standards useless in having, in talking about, and in seeking? Ptolomy produced a webpage that I gave some thought after an email from phatboy, and I am beginning to agree that wisdom on this earth, in mathematics, in fields explaining where, or what we originated from becomes trivial when one finds that it will not matter, at all, when we die, when we finally end our journey on this planet. Where we utilize our minds, spirits should be on what is true, what is absolutely beautiful, our relationships with the divine. Our nirvana.

Every night I go to sleep while listening to Coast to Coast AM and hear a wide variety of topics that range from alien abductions to remote viewing. Though at times I find myself lying in bed rolling my eyes at the content that is coming from my radio (especially when Dr. Kent Hovind is the guest), but sometimes my self-inflicted intellectual masochism is rewarded with shows that have such guests as Dr. Michio Kaku, or Philip Plait of Bad Asronomy.com . I don’t believe in the conspiracy theories, UFO’s, alien abductions, astrol projections, and especially the face on mars bullcrap, but I do have fun listening to it, and often get a good laugh at other people’s expense.
I agree with contracycle that it may be a subculture. Also Wendy Kaminer talked about all of this in her book Sleeping With Extra-terrestrials, it is a skeptics look at todays new age movements and a fun read. "He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife." ~ Douglas Adams I wish more people would shave with Occam's Razor. Orson Scott Card
