Re: Do you really know me?
I must say, I felt sad when I was made fun of for having a different viewpoint.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I only want to make fun of you for your atrocious spelling and grammar. Honestly, what would Chris Simon Porteus Sr. say?
I do not adhere to science, I do not adhere to the evidence.
That's certainly your call. But I would hope you can see how that might make having a conversation about... well, just about anything... rather difficult.
Again... your call. But given that your post seems to be screaming for respect in arguments, that would seem to present a conflict which you need to resolve.
Everyone deserves something when we die. I refuse to believe this hellhole is the best that we could expect and look forward to, "to make the best of".
You're absolutely right, Chris. I can't think of a single person on this planet who doesn't deserve more happiness than they actually receive in life. The current state of the world is not the best we can hope for.
If you don't like that this is the case, you should probably set about making the Earthly life of each and every person you meet just a little bit better; make sure that the Earth is a better place with you than it would be without you.
If you believe in God, I can't see any better way to honor him. If you don't, well that's okay too. Because we atheists generally refer to that way of life as "not being a dick".
Because this life is harsh, its rough, its corrosive and poisonous, it exists solely to bring you down and when you're brought down to that point where you have no hope because a few enlightened ones wanted to let you know your beliefs hold no bearing and this is it and there is nothing beuatiful, it is all what it seems to be, don't worry you won't remember when you don't exist anymore, then you die and God stimulates you into being happy and you live.
I honestly feel enormously sorry for you, Chris.
Personally, I think the world is a fucking beautiful place. In fact, I feel so strongly about it that I'm going to put some extraneous capital letters in there.
The world is a Fucking Beautiful Place.
YOU'RE adding to the filth, you are the filth.
Well, you're a poopy head. So there.
you deny people the hope of peace in death, you seek to erase legacies, and desecrate memories and leave all those ppl to die and rot in this hell. This is hell. This earth is hell. I will not be confined to it. My dad wont be confined to it, they scream for it, I scream for it, I scream for justice , I scream for life, I scream to be happy, it rattles through my bones.
Yes, I scream, you scream, we all scream for insane message board rants.
You don't like the world. That's horrifically unfortunate for you. Me, I'm pretty damn happy with it. I'm even happier about the six billion other people I get to share it with.
What I don't get is how your personal dislike of this world amounts to the world being a corrosive, poisonous hell-hole.
That's design. That's intelligent design, thats evidence for God.
Wait, what? You're gonna have to walk us through the jump there, Chris.

"You can't expect him to be answering your prayers when he's not real, can you? That's like writing to the characters of a soap opera and expecting a reply, Mr. Silly Sausage!"
-Jane Christie

Re: Do you really know me?
You're a good man, Phatboy. But I think you're looking for good intent where there is only rage.
For instance, how does the following:
quote:
YOU'RE adding to the filth, you are the filth. you deny people the hope of peace in death, you seek to erase legacies, and desecrate memories and leave all those ppl to die and rot in this hell.
Amount to seeking a communion?
Other than in the sense of telling us, essentially, to get on our knees and take his body in our mouths?

Re: Do you really know me?
Dan, (or alias) when a believer rants like this, they are ranting at the spirit behind people rather than at the people themselves.
Except that in this case, he posted to the forum, addressing the people here directly.
Were you to say that the ignorant, pompous, and clueless fundies were the real evil in U.S. politics, would you be talking of the people themselves...individually...or of the position which they allowed to occur?
Depends on the situation. If I were to say, "Damn, did you hear what Rick Santorum said this week? Man, that guy's a dick," I'd be talking about Rick Santorum himself.
Normally I try to get pretty specific in political discussions, to avoid exactly this type of situation.

Do you know me? That's why I carry an American Express card.
Usually I don't respond to idiots but you're an exception.
Well shucks, you've convinced me that your posts don't stem from teenage immaturity.
I don't think you realize the audacity of this statement.
Sure I do. In fact, if this conversation were in person, rather than on a message board, I would attempt to increase the audacity of the statement by waving my penis in your face while saying it.
The world is a Fucking Beautiful Place. *waggle waggle*
Visit a jail, or a graveyard, or a public school, or a third world country.
I'm aware of the problems of the world, Chris. The world has ups, and downs, and shitty parts and fucking fantastic parts. And the astounding thing is that, to varying degrees of intensity, very few lives are completely bereft of either high points or low points.
Some people get dealt a worse hand than others, no two ways about it. But the experience of life, with all the risks and rewards it is capable of giving us, amounts to something astoundingly beautiful.
You have no idea how lucky you and I are.
Sure I do. We got dealt great hands.
We're the ppl of these stupid monsters so we don't get hit with missiles.
See, when you do this, I go back to wanting to make fun of you.
Please parse this abortion of a sentence and try again. Because as it stands I have no idea what "we're the [people?] of these stupid monsters" means. Sounds like a line from a David Bowie song.

People of our American government.
Ah. You know, in the future you might want to include qualifiers like that. They make communication so much easier.

Re: Do you know me? That's why I carry an American Express card.
First of all "the majority" doesn't matter. All it takes is one person.
See, there you go again. If you're going to do well on that SAT verbal section, you might want to keep in mind that I didn't use the words "the majority". Therefore, they shouldn't be in quote marks.
But since numbers matter to you I will ask you a question.
Which brings us to this point... I didn't use words like "the majority" because the numbers don't matter to me. As I said in that post, the experience of life is what presents something beautiful. You're born into this world with the potential to spend each and every day getting blown by supermodels on a bed of money and tequila, or to wind up in a ditch, with a knife through your eye, covered in what you hope is your own vomit.
It's big and it's scary, and it's random and horrible and funny, and you have to hold on frikkin' tight or get blown off the edge. And that is Fucking Beautiful.

Well, with no offense intended, you'll grow out of it.
Doesn't mean that to be an adult, you should stop feeling sympathy for those who suffer. But there's a hell of a lot of beauty out there to be appreciated as well. No sense in wasting it.

Re: on my way out now...
The other thing you need to remember: quote Morrissey, not Trent Reznor.
Trust me, when you're in your early twenties and trying to hit on hipster girls, you'll score more points by saying you grew out of the Smiths than Nine Inch Nails.

Re: on my way out now...
I couldn't give you an exact definition, but it usually involves an eyebrow ring, a hoodie, and me swooning.
And Wilco. Wilco apparently factors in there somewhere.
