all i want to see is the queen's head on a stick, but none of the parties are offering that. Is it too much to ask?
added in edit:
okay, before anybody jumps on me, I know that the royal family doesn't have that much political power, its just a symbol, etc. etc. But if the monarchy is a symbol, then i want it represent something I believe in (i.e. upper class heads on sticks). If we really have to have a monarchy, then I think we should at least be allowed the occasional guillotining or something as payback.

It's very telling that I didn't notice the word "funky" in labour's manifesto...

I have a lot of sympathy for you, Tusko. I can't say I've ever trusted Galloway before a few months ago. A bit of a swiz, if you ask me.
However I was convinced by the reception (and hard time) he received from the fire brigades union, at various hustings over the last year or so. They really held him to account, made him explain himself in full, and ended up deciding to donate money to his campaign.
You can listen to mp3s of some of his hustings at the hands of the fire brigade union by visiting the respect website. I can assure you it's worth it, they were pretty harsh. (Although I suspect respect may have cut the most difficult bits out of the mp3 files). But Galloway gave a fair account of his history standing up for striking unions, and militant labour in general, and in the end they liked him, hence the cash donation to him and to other Respect members.
So if you you supported the fire brigade union in their recent strike, you should support Respect.
Mick
added in edit: unfortunately, as I am registerd to vote in Mansfield, under control of the utterly worthless but strangely popular Alan Meale, it's not worth me voting at all...

go tories!!!!
whoohoooo!!! Here we go!
Although I'm a British citizen, I'm currently living in Canada so I'm missing out on all the election fun. I'm writing this at 9.00 am on Thurday May 5th, so in the UK the polls are about to close. Here, it's a lovely sunny morning, and I'm looking forward to the results coming out this afternoon, and maybe having a beer or two to celebrate or drown my sorrows (and probably both).
Does anybody know of a good site to get live updates on election results? I've found Page Not Found | The Guardian, just wondered if there are any others!
Whoohooooo!!!

Re: go tories!!!!
i'm supporting the tories in this election, of course! That's why I added a "class war" avatar a few days ago. I'm on the side of the capitalist robber barons

Re: Labour with 60 seat majority (Possible)
Well, it seems I "LOST" once again.
god i hate Uk citizens. I hate them so very, very much.
what kind of scumbag would vote labour or conservative? A person with no ethics, no political imagination, a person who is willing to sit on their nestegg, on their quadruple-mortgaged house, and complain about getting mugged, complain about those nasty dark-skinned immigrants, go to work 9-5 every fucking day of their worthless lives - and what is worse - enjoy it! And go to the ballot box to perpetuate it!
Fuck'em
At the end of the day, you deserve the stupid shitty government that you voted for
That's the last time I defend democracy. Democracy is too good for you scumbags. Enjoy your mortgages, plush jobs, extra-marital affairs and fear of crime. Quiver underneath the quilt when you're woken at night by a strange noise. Quiver away, you bastards.

Re: Labour with 60 seat majority (Possible)
Sorry about that everybody,
Once every four years I slip into a slightly self-indulgent misanthropy, which lasts for about two days, and then disappears...
When I was a teenager I was like that all the time!

A party of one can't acheive much in the house of commons. but perhaps he will be a good constituency mp.
he would have been in a better position if some other members of his party had won seats. Two of them were VERY close to winning. Perhaps next time.
In any case, i'll bet his success will put the shits up the government. They must be gutted to have lost Oona King.

check out the respect website - John lees has provided a summary of what Respect's future plans are. They are going to concentrate on
a) building coalitions with local organizations prior to the council elections
b) making sure that Galloway cements his position as MP by focusing on the needs of his constituents. Respect wants to build up the grassroots support for their party. They don't want Galloway's election to be a one-off based on a single international crisis. This is good news for Galloway's constituents, because as an MP he (should) be concentrating on housing problems, and not on international issues unless they are of specific relevance to his constituents.
