only slightly disappointed
but then again i haven't read the books in a while. maybe it's time to again.
They did tack on a cheesy love story though. I could have done without that.
must have skipped a book towards the end of the series. one of them is ALL love story. well, love story, and some flying.
i'm sort of disappointed that they had to stick it in in case the later movies aren't made. what i'm even more disappointed about were the jokes they took out.
where was the second half of the babelfish joke, regarding god, logic, and intelligent design? where were the monkeys and their script for hamlet? and wasn't there a bit on magrathea about putting dinosaur bones into the planets to mess with us old-earthers? i guess they took out all of the religion/creationism jokes. i'm hoping for a director's cut with them in it...
also, zaphod's appearance did throw me off.

I don't care how well a movie sticks to a book, so that's not why I was disappointed.
I just thught the movie should have been funnier and wittier than it was.
agreed. there were several opportunities for jokes that they just missed.

I thought that Marvin was inappropriately cute, even if the costume was cool.
i thought the exact opposite.
i thought the whole brain-size thing was a figure of speech.

well, as in i always thought marvin was kind of meant to be endearing. maybe not overly cute -- but that's mostly because of the costume. i mean, he was like a 50's retro-futuristic teddy bear. giant heads connotate babies, and babies are cute.
fix the proportion issues, the bad level of cuteness goes away.

he'd be sort of terrifying if it weren't for the depressed harmless personality.
i mean, giant babies and teddy bears are downright CREEPY!
