For May, 2005 (as per previous months):
quote: Please post your votes for the May, 2005, Posts of the Month here. Include author, forum name, thread name, post number, eg: Name: Velvet Tongue Forum: Biological Evolution Thread: I'm no monkey Post #: 17
A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice. I think that a fairly liberal use of this topic would be a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic. New month, same old message and routine, Adminnemooseus

Thanks Parasomnium ...though his own arguments seem to buckle under their own weight without to much external force.

Schraf tops her usual excellence!

Bump
I don't want people to get goofy about it, but I would think that we should be able to come up with at least one POTM every day or two. If you encounter a message you think is very good, please give it a plug in this topic. Adminnemooseus

A nice pair at "Evolution: Science, Pseudo-Science, or Both?" - Nihilo and Ned
Name: Mr. Ex Nihilo Forum: Is It Science? Thread: Evolution: Science, Pseudo-Science, or Both? Post #: 169 Name: NosyNed Forum: Is It Science? Thread: Evolution: Science, Pseudo-Science, or Both? Post #: 170 Ned subtitles his message "Facts and philosophies", which seems to be a good 3 word description of what they're covering. I haven't been following this topic very closely, but I suspect there's also some good stuff upthread. Moose

ID destroyer
Name: Parasimonium Forum: Intelligent Design Thread: 10 categories of evidence for ID Post: 5 Although the original topic was weak to begin with, P manages to succinctly point out the logical fallacies and problems with each of the 5 (somehow 5 of the ten are lost) supposed pieces of evidence for ID. Wonderful post.

holmes on market economics
There seems to be no end of issues on which holmes and I, despite broad agreement, can find nitpicking points on which to argue vehemently for page after page. But in message 130 of the thread Is the US sliding into fascism? I can't find one word I would disagree with. The message is - at this writing - the latest in an exchange he's having with tal; one or two of holmes' other posts are also excellent but this one stands out to me as the best. It's just basic free-enterprise economics, but it highlights a number of usually overlooked truths about the extent to which our economy depends on our underclass. My hat is off to you, holmes!

Jar -- a good example
Not one post but a series which are not yet finished. He and Phat are discussing language. The exchange starts here:
Message 44 I think this step by step, patient working through an issue is an excellent example of how to proceed. Since Phat is, himself, a pretty logical sort of person this has some chance of succeeding in making the point. But more especially with those who are very different from Phat and unable to follow the smallest steps of logic this is an approach that I think we could all learn from. In the worst case it at least makes clear where someone is going off on a crazy tangent. This message has been edited by NosyNed, 05-15-2005 12:18 PM
