I just wanted to bring to the attention of the EvC Forum members of the sad fact that one of our country's gems has been dispoiled. The Smithsonian Museum has disgraced itself for the paltry fee of $16,000. This is the amount of money paid by the

Discovery Institute, a group in Seattle that supports an alternative theory, "intelligent design," is announcing on its Web site that it and the director of the museum "are happy to announce the national premiere and private evening reception" on June 23 for the movie, "The Privileged Planet: The Search for Purpose in the Universe."

James Randi is offering $20,000 to the Smithsonian to return the DI's money and not show the film. Excerpt from Randi's webpage follows:
Readers, do something about this. Please send an e-mail to giving@si.edu addressed to Mr. Randall Kremer, Public Affairs. Tell him of your concern over this situation. And, you might add that the JREF is willing to donate $20,000 to the Smithsonian Institution if they agree to give back the "Discovery Institute" $16,000 and decline to sponsor the showing of the film. And the JREF will not require the Smithsonian to run any films or propaganda that favor our point of view...
