I just discovered Google Maps ( Google Maps ). At present it only has maps of North America, Hawaii and the UK, and satellite photos of the entire world, but detailed photos only for North America. Satellite photos of urban areas are very detailed, of rural areas not very detailed, and outside of North America are only regional. But overall it's a far better implementation than MapQuest or YahooMaps, especially the "drag to reposition" and "recenter by double click" features - very, very quick, and you can find what you want fast! Here's my mystery photo, should be easy to figure out, definitely have to blow this up:
How about some more mystery photos, people have to guess what it's a photo of. Doesn't have to be a satellite photo. --Percy

I'm going to guess that this is a picture of where the World Trade Center Towers used to be. I don't currently have any good pics for guessing about but I'll look around for some!

KJsimons is correct, it's the former World Trade Center site in New York City. Here's another one, even easier this time:

That was quick. And correct.

Area 54
...is part of the name of this one: AbE: Aside - This is supposed to be professional photography, but one wants to scream at the photographer "the polorazing filter is your friend". This message has been edited by berberry, 06-06-2005 03:39 PM

St. Louis Arch was correct. Here's another easy one:

What's the little pink smiley balloon coming out of the front of one of the buildings?

The title of the second one is a trick you should be able to get if you think about it. It might be quite difficult to get the exact location, but the trick turns on the name.

If you do a search at Google Maps it will display little identifying balloons over each matching site. I searched for "St. Louis Arch", but the balloon for the arch actually appears at the visitor's center that is off the top of the photo. The balloon you're referring to is for the Gateway Arch & Old Courthouse Information Center. --Percy
