Re: There's sin and there's Sin.
the first sin was against God, the creator of all life
ALL sin is against god.
but seriously though. sin is missing the mark, or straying from the path. how can you sin or not sin if you don't know good and evil? if we don't know the mark, or know the path?
what adam and eve did ALLOWED for sin, but could not have been sin itself. quite simply, they didn't know any better. but they certainly did afterwards, didn't they? so they hid.

sins of children
Psalm 51:4-5
Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived m
quote:
Psalm 51:7 (different verse numbers, corresponds to 5 above)
Indeed I was born with iniquity;
   with sin my mother conceived me.
the psalmist is essentially saying that sin is part of his condition, personally. his own conception was in sin. this sort of self condemnation and guilt is different than god condemning us.
In certain contexts yes, but it is much more than missing the mark, it is intentionally missing the mark. It is intentionally carrying out an action against God:
and can an infant intentionally carry out an action against god? can a fetus? can a sperm cell?

Re: sins of children
Just to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you.
heh, don't worry about it. my one darned summer (art!) class has gotten so stressful i've been unable to reply for sometimesa whole week.
The reply will essentially require a discussion of how sin is defined in the Old and the New Testaments. As you know, the New Testament idea of the whole of mankind being tainted by Adam's sin is one that is foreign to the Old Testament.
as far as i know. they do tend to agree that people die because of adam's transgression, but i think that's only because of the removal from the tree of life.
