Has anyone read Science of God: The Convergance of Scientific and Biblical Wisdom by Gerald L. Schroeder? It's a very good read.
{Changed topic title from "Science of God" to "Science of God: The Convergance of Scientific and Biblical... by Gerald L. Schroeder". I had to clip the title a bit to fit the permitted number of characters - Adminnemooseus}

My apologies to the admin. This post should be in "Is It Science?" section.

Science of God
Actually, the topic fits here in the Book Nook. Tell us a bit more about this book and what the author intended to convey.

Re: Science of God
My knowledge is novice, and I haven't read it in awhile. However, Schroeder's main purpose is to map out the book of Genesis, and show how it's events perfectly corresponds in time to the principles of evolution (macroeveolution), using the dynamics of some of Einsteins theories (relativity). It's quite an interesting read. You would have to read it yourself to get a better grasp on what I'm trying to say.

Re: Science of God
This book does sound like a good read!
Library Journal writes:
Schroeder (Genesis and the Big Bang, LJ 9/15/90) is an Israeli physicist and scholar of Genesis who maintains that a properly understood Bible and a properly understood science provide consistent sets of data. In recent decades, scientific discoveries in cosmology, paleontology, and quantum physics do not demonstrate or prove the activity of God, but they do remove conflict with that activity. Rapprochement occurs when believers read the Bible on the Bible's terms, avoiding literalism, and when scientists realize that science is powerless to pronounce on a purpose for life. Schroeder is very lucid in explaining difficult scientific concepts, such as the passage of time according to the theory of relativity, and religious data, such as the original Hebrew words. Schroeder's careful and responsible handling of the data on origins from science and Genesis 1, combined with a fresh, judicious correlation between the two, is compelling. Highly recommended.
I often like to hear a view from one of the Jewish scholars. They respect scripture, unlike so many of the hollow intellectuals who worship at the altar of Dawkins or Hawking. They can hold their own in any sort of debate yet they seek to share with everyone who asks them about their take on spirituality and practicality of such. I WILL read this book one of these days..or at least browse through it thoroughly. I often go to the local bookstore and spend an hour or so doing just that!

Re: Science of God
I haven't read "The Science of God" but I did read his more recent book called "The Hidden Face of God".
I don't have a scientific background so I can only read it as the ultimate layman. I did however find it to be one of the most interesting books that I have read. It was neither a long or difficult read but it did give me a new perspective on the universe.
He has a Ph.D. from MIT and has worked in both physics and biology so he should know what he is talking about.

Re: Science of God
It is questionable whether Schroeder really understands the science he is using (or more likely abusing).
