Okay, I've got another annoyance to add.
Ann Coulter.
Here's a quote, taken from Tal's sig:
"Why not go to war just for oil? We need oil. What do Hollywood celebrities imagine fuels their private jets? How do they think their cocaine is delivered to them?"
--Ann Coulter
Ann Coulter is absolutely 100% batsh!t insane. I listen to right-wing and left-wing talk radio, I read political websites, and generally try to understand everybody's views. Both sides have some representatives with a few screws loose, or who are just basically dishonest, but Ann Coulter is the craziest nutso I've seen gain actual attention. Yeah, there are worse (Fred Phelps picketing the funerals of gay soldiers, etc), but she actually gets media time.
Nothing on you, Tal, and I don't know your reasons for putting this quote in your sig (maybe you find her as nutso as I do and want to mock her, or maybe you even agree, I dunno), but every time I see it I get all pissed off.

Every time a fundy breaks the laws of thermodynamics, Schroedinger probably kills his cat.

can however forgive BI-CESTER (It's actually "BISS-TER").
You can imagine the fun I've had with Americans who've come over here (Leicester), which is just down the road from Loughborough.
I'm sure everywhere has similar quirks but there's a couple of pecularities in the way the Leicester locals pronounce things that have always seemed odd to me.
One of the big drinking areas in town includes Belvoir Street - it's pronounced beaver (like the dam-building mammal).
The other one is the village of Groby which is just North of Leicester - for some reason everyone around here calls it GREW-BE.

Oops! Wrong Planet
