EVC Morons
With all seriousness you all off-topic driviling morons, how can this NOT be the first post to be entered into this rediculous catageory for loosers like you all?

P.P.S. Kudos to rox for the post. Definitly a classic even if it was blatantly against the rules.

Re: thank you?
Its all in good fun. Personally I respect what you did. Although I think it could have been done without you getting suspended it certainly captured the frustration that we all were having with Faith at that moment. Some of us for some reason or another just couldn't bring ourselves to let loose like you did. Holmes actually did a little but it slipped under the radar of both Faith and the mods it seemed. Kinda makes you wonder if posts are actually being read or simply skimmed for the points someone feels they can attack.

Trivia
Not that it`s Faith-bashing month
This wasn`t so much an 'ad hom' as a grand put-down.
I pointed out the Southern Convocation set up a committee to revise the KJV. It was composed of the leading scholars of the time, and worked for ten years on what became the RV. When the American version came out, it sold a million copies on the first day.
Faith: Thanks for the trivia.
Oh, the pain, the pain.

Re: EVC Morons
Yeah, I agree this post kicked unholy amounts of butt, although I can't figure out how Jazz managed to get it right for once. Anyone who doesn't agree is either a moronic, brainwashed extreme right wing fundie or an idiotic, brainwashed extreme left wing atheist. Sheesh, seems like I'm the only sane one in the center around here sometimes.
Jazz... just kidding, in the spirit of the thread.

definition of ad hominem
I'm going to shot this from my hip and memory.
An ad hominem fallacy is when someone attempts to argue with a point by disparaging the individual making it.
Thus saying: "You are an idiot and I don't like talking to you." is not an adhominem. Nor is: "You are an utter fool for holding such a stupid idea."
A lot of what has been posted here isn't ad hominem.
However, "That idea is silly because your authority is a pompous fool whose degree is from a mail order diploma mill." is an ad hominem.

But what if it were true? What if a scientist decided to decline debating Hovind on those grounds. I would laugh and cheer him on for it

add a hominem or two
for a list of logical fallacies with definitions and examples see
Forbidden
Note that they are broken down by category
the ad hominem fallacy is defined at:
Forbidden
The person presenting an argument is attacked instead of the
argument itself. This takes many forms. For example, the
person's character, nationality or religion may be attacked.
Alternatively, it may be pointed out that a person stands to
gain from a favourable outcome. Or, finally, a person may be
attacked by association, or by the company he keeps.
There are three major forms of Attacking the Person:
(1) ad hominem (abusive): instead of attacking an assertion,
the argument attacks the person who made the assertion.
(2) ad hominem (circumstantial): instead of attacking an
assertion the author points to the relationship between the
person making the assertion and the person's circumstances.
(3) ad hominem (tu quoque): this form of attack on the
person notes that a person does not practise what he
preaches.
Nosyned comes close with his examples, and if I change them to:
"You are an idiot and therefore your ideas are not worth listening to."
"You are an utter fool so any ideas you are holding are stupid."
Then they are ad hominems
Note that a lot of political 'slander' is done by the various ad hominems listed.
Learning to identify logical fallacies would go a long ways towards having an electorate that can separate truth from fallacy.
Obviously half the US is logically illiterate, and therefore their political opinion is worthless.
