Your official guess has a decent probability of being wrong, as it was shown back in the 1970's that a human sperm will penetrate an ovum from a gibbon - which is not even a great ape like a human or chimp. The study didn't apparently report whether the experiment was carried on far enough to see if a truly fertilized egg resulted.

That's a long way from a human/monkey hybird. A sperm cell penetrated an egg cell wall (as it was designed to do...or randomly happened to end up doing, whichever school of thought you come from) is a long ways off from a humanzy.

WWXD?

I'm aware of that. Human sperm, though, won't even recognize ova of non-primates. In that study, they were attracted to gibbon ova. Why, d'ya think?

Human DNA is 98% comparable to Monkey DNA.
Human DNA is 99% comparable to Cow DNA. *this is for those that say, "look! monkey DNA is almost the same as human, so we came from monkeys." *jeapordy wrong answer beep* Ooooo sorry, looks like we came from moo cows.
chimps: 98.5%
cows seem to be about 85%. where did you get your figures?
The soul is defined by the bible as your mind, will, and emotions. So animals have them. I beleive the spirit is what you are referring to.
Goes something like this:
Plants only have bodies.
Animals have bodies and souls.
Humans have bodies, souls, and spirits.
book, chapter, verse?

It's off topic for the thread, which deals with biology, but this is a complete mischaracterization of particle physics.

Re: Old ITV series on this theme.
Ha ha, I remember... appalling acting I seem to remember Wasn't there also something before "First Born" called "Chimera" which was a similar theme? Including the bad acting...

Re: Old ITV series on this theme.
I think 'Chimera' actually came afterwards in 1991 with 'First Born' airing in 1988. I was wrong about the channel though, 'First Born' was on the BBC.

Sounds interesting, though I get into huge trouble with my fellow Christians when I raise such ideas
When I've got a moment, I'll propose a thread on my pet topic of Playing God.
Anyway, all of the following is very much IMHO and based on my beliefs (so don't ask for evidence, chapter or verse)
In answer to your question of soul, I refer you to Moonlighting... Remember when Maddy was pregnant, and we had the whole episode leading up to her miscarriage at the last minute? Where Baby-Hayes (Bruce Willis playing a foetus) was conversing with God's messanger about what life was going to be like... well, here you get the picture of there being no hard and fast rules about souls. Although in the end Maddy loses the baby, Baby-Hayes is simply born to someone else!
In other words, metaphysics is not "scientific". There is no rule that says a soul is "lost" at a miscarriage (or abortion?) that a clone would not have a soul, and the same with a humanzee. It's God's choice how this stuff works out. And by soul, I mean simply that which makes us special in God's eye wrt the rest of the animal kingdom, so substitute "spirit", "spark" or whatever takes your fancy.
I guess you could ask what happens when we breed the humnazee with another chimp? Well, I never thought for a moment that Zera, Cornelius, and Dr Zaius didn't have souls... but I had my doubts about the gorrillas

All gods' children got soul
Chimps climb hilltops to sit quietly and watch lightning displays with what looks like wonder to me. They make a lot of noise to intimidate each other. They cheat on each other sexually and economically.
Sounds like chimps already have as much soul as we do. The chimphomo might lose a little primeval soul due to H. sapiens contagion, but maybe not.

Far fetched?
Yes, actually it is. Neither of the two links you provided supports your claim of 99% human/cow homology. I see in some later posts you cite a Bio 101 class and a question on a test. Were you trying to be funny or do you really think that passes for debate even in the coffeehouse?

I don't have a problem adding human genes to animal embryos to produce human insulin and the like. I do have a problem creating a human/any animal chimera. I consider it to be unethical regardless of what religion has to say about it. I also feel uncomfortable with "designer" babies, etc., with the possible exception of using gene therapy to cure undisputed genetic pathologies.
