Re: Opposing Terrorism
The sanctions were working in spite of the oil for food scandals. Saddam was contained. He wasn't even a smidgen as dangerous as the Soviets in 1945 (before they had nukes), yet we contained the Soviets from 1945 to 1989 at far greater cost than what it was taking to contain Saddam. Furthermore, we had our own "vested interest" in invading, so it is probably best that we not get on our moral high horse vis a vis the French.

Not for my sake. We seem to have played this out.

No...but I think that you like that phrase, "witching hour folk"!
Are not a group of people "folks" instead of "folk" or is that a Texas thing?

Re: Opposing Terrorism
I guess, in the final analysis, if all that matters to you is voicing your moral oppposition, no matter what the cost in human life, then that is your American right. However, it is not what a good & patriotic American citizen should or would do in circumstances such as we face today with respect to the war on terrorism & the war in Iraq. But by all means, exercise your rights.

Re: Opposing Terrorism
jar writes:
Now that we've invaded and overthrown the governments in these two countries, I think our selfinterest and even honor says that we need to be sure that they get beyond simply having a democratically elected government. We need to stick it out until they are viable. That could well be 50 years, will certainly be decades at a minimum.
But those actions have absolutely nothing to do with the issue of terrorism.
Does that make any sense or should I try rewording it again?
I agree with the first part and it is much better put than what how I put it.
I disagree however with it having nothing to do with terrorism. A politically stable ME would be a huge blow to terrorism, and other than for the interests of the Iraqis themselves this is the main reason to be there.
This is a short answer as I have to run.

Re: It's witching hour folk
I'd like one. Despite the rest of the bickering, Tal, Monk, and a few others, were engaged in a rather inteligent discussion about facts and evidence.

Re: It's witching hour folk
Start one, Yaro. Call it "Opposing Terrorism" or perhaps War in Iraq II. This one is adios.
Thanks everyone for your opinions and comments.
