I am no prude, but I truly feel that Tal's signature has no place on this forum. I know twice admins have mentioned it to him. I also expressed that i felt it was offensive. What are the limits going to be? Can people put anything as a signature?

Tal also said he would change it. He hasn't yet.

Tal's Sig
Personally, I don't have a problem with Tal's signature.
As we've seen over and over and over, the only people who are actively out bashing homosexuals are themselves in the closet.
I think his signature is a good first step in Tal's eventual awakening to his own gay lifestyle

Well as some of you may have observed, I had several "rounds" with Tal regarding his signature. I resolved it for myself by just not responding to Tal as long as he uses the signature. I suspect if everyone did that he would eventually change it or leave. I too am puzzled as to why he has not been banned after agreeing to change it and not changing it. I do agree with some of you who have suggested that there may be value in just letting him keep it though, as it does place his views into some perspective.

As Tal's signature is actually a reference to a study I proposed as evidence in the role of genetics in determining sexual orientation, I am particularly offended by his signature. I don't appreciate scientific evidence or my own comments being twisted and misrepresented in such a bigotted manner.
Tal's current sig in no way represents my comments on the study, nor the findings of the study itself. It seems doubtful to me that Tal has even read the study in question.

I agree with Nuggin...to a point. I think that Tal's signature does reflect his closet homosexuality. But at the same time, he keeps claiming that it is supported by scientific evidence supplied by Rahvin, which is complete bullshit, and it is for that reason that I think the signature should not be allowed.
Edited to add: I see that Rahvin has already pointed that out.

Sig Police
But if Tal's sig is forcibly removed, then shouldn't all sigs be removed if found offensive to some? Your sig might be offensive to fundamentalist who don't like the term "fundie". Isn't that a slippery slope? Where will it end?
It seems to me if Tal is respecting forum guidelines, it should stay.
I'm reminded of an old political adage. I've dressed it up a bit for the occasion, but the message is the same:
"I will use my dying breath to fight the putrid venom that spews from the gutter you call a mouth and then use my last breath to shout from the mountaintop your right to spew it."

Re: Sig Police
Speaking as one of the more outspoken gay guys here, I'd have to agree with Monk. Personally, I think he should have the right to put whatever he wants to in his sig. Unlike Tal, I'm not going to go after him for his opinion.
I just wish people would focus more on Tal's very willful blank assertions throughout this forum. Isn't it time we try to make him post his evidence in the science forums rather than continue on allowing him to make bare assertions about evolution in faith based forums?

Tal has been doing it for months.
I did point this out a couple of weeks ago - Tal will not enter the science forums, he sticks to the coffee shop where he can just wander off. People used to have a go at Buzzsaw for making statements and never backing them up - he has got nothing on Tal.

Re: Sig Police
That's fine when it's a difference of opinion, but, on this occasion, it is a deliberately dishonest representation of information another poster kindly provided him with and Tal has then had the nerve to state that his sig is what the other poster said.
While I agree with you about a person's right to voice their opinion, I cannot see any reason to defend a person's right to dishonestly represent another's words. I also believe that this is against the forum guidelines i.e. debate in good faith.

You have a point. I don't like blank assertions either or hit and run posters for that matter. But if he stays in the coffee house, what can be done?

I feel the same way.
I'm not advocating the forcible removal of Tal's sig unless the Mods determine that it violates forum guidelines. That's their call to make, not mine.
All I'm doing is using the same right to free speach to express my displeasure and condemnation of Tal's dishonesty and foolishness.
It's not right for him to twist evidence provided into something it doesn't say. It's not fair to me to have my comments twisted in such a way, either. Whether it's against the rules or not, I am asking Tal to change his sig becuase I find it to be directly offensive to me.
Unless the Mods intervene, he has the right to deny that request.

Hmm.... Well, Tal's sig is on the edge that's for sure. His sig would need editing if someone's alias was used without permission. No question. Still, I'd like to hear some more admin opinions.

Muhaahahahahaha
True, true. As long as he is making his assaults from there, there really is nothing we can do. Fine, I'll be keeping my eyes open. The moment he steps into any of the science forums, I'm going to kick his ass.

Hear, hear. We agree.
I'm not sure if it was your suggestion or not, but someone suggested if it is truly offensive, ignoring him could be effective. Nobody likes to post in a vacuum, except maybe Brad.
