It's because New Orleans' sinning has gotten out of control! Damn those girls gone wild to hell!
Anyway, I'm currently in South Florida and it passed us as barely a category 1. Everyone thought it was just going to fizzle out after that but it grew like crazy. Passing over Florida didn't seem to hurt it much. Good luck to you all. I say get out if you can, it's no fun sitting through it even if nothing is damaged. Especially having the power out for a few days.

God destroys New Orleans because of annual homosexual party event's excessive sinning. (Repent America | Hurricane Katrina)

That's great... call your friend Bush up and tell him to order massive drop shipping of water and supplies. Don't fuck around, just drop some god damn supplies. There are people starving to death. There's elderly people that are dead in their wheelchairs at the designated "rescue" points waiting. There's babies dying of thirst in their mother's arms.
I know everyone is in freaking Iraq but give me a break. There's choppers out there. This should be a full on effort. What happened to all the "We're the US fing A" attitude? I don't care about what Bush did or didn't do about preventing the situation. Clearly his response is unacceptable at this point.

I agree. I haven't seen the mayor on speaking in quite a while. Last I heard he was saying "This is an S.O.S.!"
While I agree that the locally elected have a serious responsibility, I have to understand that every officer the city has is there. A lot (I believe I read about 1/3) actually quit the force because they didn't want to be shot at. My friends at DirectNIC, a tech company in New Orleans, had to go to the aid of an officer and give him water because he was stuck out there and actually said "I'm scared." I have people I'm speaking to on a regular basis that are there, in the thick, and it is BAD. Have a look at his blog: Interdictor LiveJournal I can't speak for the logistics that the president may be facing but I know that there are mega uber super duper stores, WAL-Mart for example, in the nearby areas who have HUGE stockpiles of goods. As the president I would be landing helicopters outside of their facilities and DEMANDING they be loaded and then putting them on the ground, not only at the dome but throughout the streets. Doesn't this fall under "Homeland Security?" Let's start actually putting that phrase to some practical use.

So we're taking the alternative of a "wait and see" policy? I don't see any marines on the ground taking control of the city and surely we can't just let people starve.
Furthermore, I'm not talking about landing. I'm talking about dropping. I'm talking about an African resource type of operation. This is a desperate measure but something needs to be done. Choppers can and do fly tight in situations that call for it. This is why we have a military that spends trillions of dollars on training. First and foremost it's protecting our citizens.

but really in a catastrophe this size, we should have had the military take-over entirely and told them to restore and maintain order, and immediately evacuate the people from the city. I agree, especially when the mayor and the citizens are begging for it. As the mayor of New Orleans said, S.O.S!

Monk writes: What kind of statement is that, SOS?! I am struck by the abject failure in that remark. It shows much of the reason the situation is getting worse instead of better. A mayor following a well thought out plan as a leader would not need to yell for help and wait until the need is so immediate. I agree. That's why I think as soon as the people above him heard that this was obviously out of his control, there should have been a step in on the federal level. Just look at the way President Bush senior handled hurricane Andrew. Much better than his son, in my opinion.

I just wanted to make a quote note to make it clear that no one is criticizing the individuals helping. Everyone on the ground that I can see is doing an excellent job.
The problem is up the ladder with the overall organization of the entire operation.

From my friend's post (at a tech company in New Orleans):

This type of talk is nothing new to anybody here. This person is some kind of double talk professional but I'm not fooled. Many times, the people who hate Christianity will plant one of there own in the group as a radical and then try to paint the whole group as a bunch of waccos. I used to think Faith was just a plant. An undercover hardcore atheist because his/her views were just too crazy to be believable. After a while though, I started think that there was some kind of genuine belief there. I think it was from reading all of the responses to admins in Suggestion forums or about suspensions/bannings. I don't know, I think it's the real deal, personally.
