Don't believe the "unacceptable" comments from Bush.
I will when he starts to fire people.

The Federal government’s job in these type of disasters is to assist local and state officials.
Actually, since the Dept of Homeland Security was commissioned that has changed.
More on a new topic soon.

Re: Mayor Lashes out at Feds
Just a question: we knew this storm was going to hit somewhere and that it was big enough to affect many cities on the coast ...
You show your ignorance to the situation. Command orders came down 12 hours after the storm hit to reconfigure the aircraft for FEMA missions.
... so why wasn't that 12 hours BEFORE the storm hit? OR MORE?
I mean, really: 12 hours AFTER????
Why weren't they reconfigured, loaded and ready to go before the storm hit?

choose ignorance!
as long as God is ignored or reviled or considered to be remote
ah yes, and of course as long as science and evidence is reviled or ignored, whether it involves the evidence of global warming and the effects of a few degrees on extreme weather or the efects of pollution or the behavior of tectonic plates and soil settlement,
as long as we have a government that keeps reducing the spending on keeping infrastructure operational if not improved,
as long as people keep pouring in to live in places prone to disasters of remote probability ...
... then it won't be our fault when it happens, and when it does we can always revile the people that told us different and continue to ignore the evidence.
so let's chose to be ignorant and not do anything.
enjoy.

Re: Mayor Lashes out at Feds
They are stored in WRSK kits in various places around the country.
So there were none stored in the area around a known flooding hazard and a known hurrican hazard, that could deal with the known potential disaster as well as be a staging ground for other areas.
I'm sorry, LB, I think the Coast Guard is doing a fantastic job with the resources, but I think there {is\was} severe disconnect on what needed to be done 5, 10 years ago, plus what the DHS by their own mandate should have had planned, and what we see.
I think you {guys\gals} we left holding the bag with the bottom cut off.

Re: Casinos at the waters edge.
The Casinos started with boats that had to go out to "international waters" before they could open the casinos, thus you had a dinner cruise a little gamboling, and then a band for entertainment on the way back.
The casinos lobbied for and got exemptions from the need to go to the IW line, and that is when the {barely floating \ sunk at the dock} barges started being used.
Of course the good people didn't want to legalize gambling on land because it was sinful, they just wanted it nearby .... the "line between saturday night and sunday morning" (Jimmy Buffet)

Re: Casinos at the waters edge.
I was there when the first boats were being used on the MS coast. That was a while ago ...
The legislation that was approved at the state level left it up to the towns to regulate, they were the ones that initially required the offshore trips.
Of course as soon as one allowed it dockside the other followed so as not to lose the golden goose.

Faith Hate
Just to correct a few misimpressions.
let us know when you do. yours that is.
your god must love Cuba:
http:///cgi bin/dm.cgi?action=msg&f=14&t=988&m=295#295
the problem is that you make conclusions irrelevant to the evidence.
personally I think you owe everyone on this board an apology for your narrowminded "blame everybody but me including people who live as far away as alaska (but I'm ok I believe in my god)" attitude
but I don't expect to see one coming, because of your narrowminded "blame everybody but me including people who live as far away as alaska (but I'm ok I believe in my god)" attitude
this is the same attitude that would take the preventative measures used by cuba to deal with their cat5 hurricane and which prevented the loss of life ... and attribute that to your god, not to the people that did the actual work.
get a reality check while your on vacation, they're cheap. In fact because of the hurricane, they're on discount.
