Re: "Size" dBCode not working properly?
If you view the source HTML code you'll see that the qs boxes are implemented with tables. The text and backgrounds in tables are completely independent of the pre-existing context.

Changing a hacky title
This is not a big deal, but... I think I'm stuck now. I think we talked about this before, but since I'm stuck.. here's what I saw:
  • I wanted to underline the name of the book in my topic title. So, I added HTML tags for underline into the title textbox. When I previewed the topic, it worked fine. But when I tried to submit the topic, it rejected me (no <> characters allowed).
  • So I tried some different ways to get underlining in the title, but they were all rejected. So I just posted my thread without underlining, and wanted to see if I could get it in using the "edit" function of the opening post.
  • When editing the opening post, ,I saw the same behavior--in preview it would work, but on submit, I'd get an error message (in this case a different (but similar) error message, but with a type-o ("We cannot post this because it appears that you are tring to hack the topic subject. Please use your back button and try again")
  • So I decided to try and escape the sucker in, using < and >. Of course, what I got was the tags appearing in my title, and not an underlined title.
  • I had submitted with this title, so I wanted to edit it out and go back to just words, no formatting in the title. But now when I try to edit the title and submit, I get that same error--even though I'm going from funky characters to no funky characters. And when I do edit the post, the characters don't appear as escaped in the text box, but rather as their unescaped versions (i.e. I couldn't just hit "edit" and "submit" anyway, because the original escaping didn't appear in the edit boxes
Hope this makes sense. Clearly not a big deal (since it only happens when goofs like me are around), but my stupid thread has a funky title now. Taitoru wo naoshite kudasaimasenka? (Could you fix the title for me, pretty please?)
Ben

Can't search using "cavediver" handle
If I search messages with the "cavediver" alias, I come up with no responses... even though when I remove the alias, the search returns results posted by cavediver.
I double-checked, and the search feature works for other users that I tried. Just not cavediver.

All topics list not updated
I just posted something to the chicken & egg thread, but the all topics list wasn't updated. My post is there, though.

We had that problem yesterday.
Percy fixed it this morning. Then Brad broke it again.

I think I messed up TWO threads
one is Message 52 -- that is the thread I'm pretty sure. I think that is the message I messed it up on. It was taking forever to submit that message. So I escaped or went back or something before the message was through "submitting." But, voila, the message did appear. However, the thread did not show me as the last respondent, but rather referenced teh message before mine (not updating?). it is fixed now, I guess.
second thread is Message 5 and Message 6. On the first one, once again what should take seconds took minutes and still did not complete -- that is, the "submitting" function. So I escaped or went back or something, but even though submitting was only half-way through my message was posted. however, the thread did not update. I wanted to edit my post, but "submitting" could never be completed. Finally, I tried reposting my edited version Message 6 and left it for awhile in the "submitting" mode and came back to a "server" error or something which said my requested action couldn't be completed or whatever. However, that message posted as well. However, thread is still not updating.
I probably messed it up when I exited out of the submit mode the first time. {shrugs}.

Re: e-mail notification
To all,
Is anyone else seeing email notification slowness? It makes a difference how I investigate whether it's a problem specific to a member or a general problem.

Well, thanks to Ben, it appears that response times are pretty good. I hope he'll respond here with his results.

Re: e-mail notification
Sure. Jar and I played a little email tag. I didn't see any significant delay at all in email notifications.
I've had no trouble since the system was moved, in receiving notifications to "reply to my post" as well as "new post on my thread" email notifications.
Ben

Re: No email at all now
Could the be spam filtering (at your site) that has run awry?

72.4.161.195 is the IP address of EvC Forum. Are you at the University of Glasgow? A google on "dns-registered" included this webpage:
Not sure if the substance of this webpage is related to your problem, but it seems to be saying that they'll deny access to any sites whose IP isn't DNS registered. EvC Forum is certainly DNS registered, so maybe there's a problem with a name server somewhere.
Yours is the only email being kicked back right now, except for TheLiteralist, whose email address at bellsouth.net is timing out. This has been going on for a few days, so I've turned his email notification off. He can turn it on again when his email account is working again.
Edited by AdminBen to make email addresses fail to be crawled (I hope); thanks for the suggestion nwr

rDNS
There appears to be no rDNS (reverse DNS) for 72.4.161.195. That is, a lookup of the IP address does not return a hostname. Instead, it returns status: NXDOMAIN, indicating that there is no entry in DNS for that name.
It is becoming increasingly common for mail servers to refuse email from sites with no rDNS.
The failed DNS lookup references ns1.primarydns.com as the responsible DNS server, and the hostmaster at primarydns.com as the responsible person, for handling an rDNS entry.
