Does this mean there have been five other hurricanes since Katrina? It means there have been five named storms (tropical storms (storms over with sustained winds over 39mph)), in this case I beileve all of them except Lee have subsequently turned into hurricanes (I could be wrong):
Lee, Maria Nate Ophelia and Philippe And after Wilma they go Greek This message has been edited by Modulous, Thu, 22-September-2005 04:18 PM

Hey Modulous...did you add the hypertext yourself or is this from a service that does so? I know where to get these, but only in plain-text format.

Oh, and Global Warming is a bunk theory put fourth by a bunch of crazy liberal tree hugers! You will now move to my thread on Global Warming and educate yourself. Even scientists firmly on the side of GW discount making connections between these events and global warming. Yes, those people refering to GW every time there is a powerful/devastating storm are the same as fundies claiming it is a sign from God punishing us for our wickedness. They are storms, they happen, they vary, and they can do lots of damage. Katrina's main devastation was wholly manmade, as an improper levee system was in place, leading to the FLOODING that killed so many. We'll have to see what this one does, but it is not a sign of anything, specifically what we should be doing politically about GHGs. Environmentalism can be practical and without the hysterics. holmes "...what a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away.."(D. Bros)

Here's an interesting graphic, from The National Weather Service. Like they said at Crooks and Liars, you just can't make this stuff up:
"I think younger workers first of all, younger workers have been promised benefits the government promises that have been promised, benefits that we can't keep. That's just the way it is." George W. Bush, May 4, 2005

Makes you wonder what all those religious people who blamed New Orleans' "sinful" lifestyle for Katrina are going to say now that Rita is heading for Texas.
You know, our president's home state?

You will now move to my thread on Global Warming and educate yourself. Even scientists firmly on the side of GW discount making connections between these events and global warming. I have. It's a good thread. My comment was made ina tounge and cheek manner ABE: Although I agree with you. I don't think these hurricanes would have been "prevented" by Kyoto or something, as I understand it weather conditions are getting more severe as a result of climate change. Weather or not these particular hurricanes are a result, probably not. MIT Hurricane Study: Global Warming ‘Pumping Up’ Destructive Power This message has been edited by Yaro, 09-23-2005 09:20 AM
