I take issue with some questions. It assumes 'standard' on stuff that ain't necisseraly standard. For exampple, the sides of a pencil, it says 5. All the pencils on my desk have 6.
Anyhoo, pretty cool.

My pencils are round, no sides and I didn't look until after I did the test.

I was getting them right, but then cultural based questions came into it. Campbell's soup? The statue of liberty? What stripes start off the flag. The reason I am posting is I am wondering who or what 'U.S. info' is?
Abe: Also, I've seen this test with 27 questions on it, but the average result is the same. Is this not odd? The other two questions are 'What is on the back of a Canadian dime?' and 'On the back of a Canadian $1 coin, what is in the centre?' I've also seen it with 29 questions, this time asking whose face is on a dime, and a question about a NY number plate, who is on the one dollar bill, and what letters do not appear on a telephone dial. There is even a 30 question version (where question 24 is missing and it tries to demonstrate your observation lacking skills by pointing out that you didn't notice). Interesting. At least it did not have any movie references.

I got 4 wrong. It would have been 6, but I protest 2 of the answers given because I know for a fact I'm correct.
Number 7 asks for the number of matches in a standard pack. The answer provided was for match books, not match boxes - which I consider to be a pack. My answer was 32, which is the number contained in a standard match box (wood matches). Number 9 asks for the lowest number on the FM dial. The question didn't specify whether the dial was analog or digital. I didn't think about it at the time, but my answer, 88, is in fact the lowest number on the analog dial. Fun little test, rat. Thanks for the diversion. "We look forward to hearing your vision, so we can more better do our job. That's what I'm telling you."-George W. Bush, Gulfport, Miss., Sept. 20, 2005.

But I, too, must protest the FM dial answer - 88 is the lowest number on any dial I've ever seen.
And answer 10 is incorrect: hemisphere matters not, only the swirl you gave the tub while filling or splashing around.

5 for lugnuts, 6 for pencils. It's write, you're just lining up answers and questions wrong.
I got it wrong anyway, said 6 for lugnuts

I got a 17, but like many others I have some issues with the questions.
For example - which side of the cord on a venetian blind. The inside. How many sides on a stop sign. 10 eight around the edges and a front and a back. And, what the hell is a VHF TV Dial? Is that some new kind of TV remote? Fun stuff though abe: If the concensus is 88 is the lowest number on the FM dial, then 18 correct This message has been edited by Nuggin, 10-03-2005 01:06 PM

17.
The one about which way water goes down the drain is bullshit. The Coriolis effect only matters when the fluid spans across a bunch of a latitudal lines, like ocean currents and hurricanes. It isn't even strong enough to dictate which way a tornado will spin, let alone which way water drains down the tub.

Some questions are definitely wrong.
The water direction down the drain depends on residual swirls in the water NOT on the hemisphere of the earth.I just checked a regular "standard pencil" and both it and an expensive drawing pencil have 6 sides. I'm sure the answer there is wrong too. I got 5 for the "most common" number of lugs but it is NOT standard.

Yeah! The question should have been "Which direction do tropical cyclones spin in the Northern Hemisphere?".
And the lug nuts one is sort of lame as many smaller cars have only 4 lug nuts. I only missed the matchbook and unlettered numbers on the phone dial and maybe answering 88 for the low end of the FM dial. And where is there blue on a Campbell's soup can? (abe: forgot about the soup can colors.) This message has been edited by kjsimons, 10-03-2005 01:45 PM

I think you misread the answer about pencils as it said six and so did you. Now of course I've owned round, square and even rectangular pencils, but by far most have been hexagonal.

Eighteen. But I plead cultural prejudice - I would have gotten the two Canadian questions right.
I give the tester about fourteen for his/her questions. The other eleven are too ambigious or make too many assumptions about "standards". And what about the obsession with cheating? I was witing the answers down with a pencil, so it was kind of hard not to cheat on that one. As for the letters on the phone dial - I have a phone right on my desk with no letters on it, so cheating wouldn't help. If I was going to cheat, I would have just claimed 24 and gone into a tirade about cultural prejudice. People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.
