I find myself talking to the pet. Our cat is a "heritage pet" our son wanted a cat when he was 15, he is now 30 but Prieta is sill with us.
Worse yet she seems to understand what is said and makes her wishes known.
Do we all do this?

You want another cat?
I rescued a cat (she literally jumped onto me and started licking my face in the park). A few months after popped out 3 kittens.
I'll UPS the kitten(s) free of charge.

I talk to my pets quite a bit, and always have done so. It's amazing how they can listen to utterly obscene, foul rants against foul bosses or political figures, or just against "the way things are," as long as the rant is in a calm tone of voice and accompanied by scratching behind the ears or smooth strokes down the back. And, in this modern Intarweb Era, talking to the dog/ferret/cat is still a lot easier than all this typing.

And the feedback is instantaneous.
Thanks!

I talk to Pepper all the time
...and he definitely picks up on some of the words and phrases I use. For instance, if I say something about Bush he knows I might get carried away in anger, so he'll run over and look at me with sad eyes as though he feels sorry for me. If he hears me on telephone saying something like "I'll be on over" he'll run up next to me and stand at attention, waiting for me to put his halter on so we can go.
Whenever I need to go somewhere I can't take him, I say "I've gotta go to work". He knows that means he can't go, and he'll go somewhere away from me but where I can see him, then lie down and look sulky.
Our local outlet mall is hosting a Halloween costume contest for dogs in a couple weeks and I plan to enter Pepper. I think I'm gonna dress him up the way he is in my avatar. That's a leather Harley-Davidson jacket he's wearing along with the sunshades. I think I'll try to find a small bandana to tie around his neck. A friend suggested a black leather cap but I dunno. I'm not sure it'd add anything to the biker theme since bikers wear helmets.

"We look forward to hearing your vision, so we can more better do our job. That's what I'm telling you."-George W. Bush, Gulfport, Miss.,
