Am I the only one who felt a bit sad about Prophex's posts in the thread about "Evolution and specialness of humanity" ( http://EvC Forum: Evolution and Specialness of Humanity -->EvC Forum: Evolution and Specialness of Humanity ) ?
Why feel the need to deny part of reality in order to feel life is worthwhile, while there is so much stuff out there that makes it worth living?
Here's a small list of a couple of things that remind me of this:
(1) This first one probably clears up my cryptic username (mostly chosen because I had no inspiration at all, though). And at the same time it exposes how simple and ordinary Annafan really is deep down there, despite some obvious intellectual pretenses. I still do really bad when it comes to trying to resist basic primitive urges. "It" (replace by "Woman" for general applicability) is the one and only argument that *could* push me slightly in the direction of a Designer with Purpose as well. A benevolent God if you will. Although there also are some issues, which make me believe that the Devil probably had a hand in it... But then again, rationally I know that it all comes down to Evolution's smartest trick. And don't we (=men and lesbian women) love to be tricked this way!
click to fully appreciate... Let the endorphins flow freely!
(2) There's natural beauty, and then there are the products of our mind. This one never fails to make the tears well up...
http://rapidshare.de/files/6314176/Kanon_Intro.mp3.html
(3) The existence of a thing like Wikipedia:
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's strange, but I always get a warm feeling inside when I browse through it. I would say this is pretty much what the most idealistic Internet gurus of about 15 years ago had in mind.
...
There are countless others, so feel free to add!

Sex, art, and knowledge (ie discovery). Sleep (and sometimes eating) is nice, but those don't drive me.
I firmly agree that Wiki gives me confidence and uplifts my spirits. But I cannot hang on to that too firmly. At some point it most certainly could be destroyed by humans.

Sharing a joke with friends. Or even not-quite-friends.
There's other stuff I like, too, but this pretty much is the important one.

Ya know, whenever I was asked the question "Why do you live?" or something along those lines... my answer was allways "...cuz there's nothing else to do."
That about sums it up for me It's a fun ride, I plan to see it thrugh.

Alternative
Ya know, whenever I was asked the question "Why do you live?" or something along those lines... my answer was allways "...cuz there's nothing else to do."
Well there is and alternative, just doesn't seem too popular.
I've never understand why those who think heaven is better than this life waste their time here.

He's an angry teenager. With his mood swings, he'll change to a completely new opinion in a few days. Angry teenagers are like pregnant women. Just can't reason with them.

A youth is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He will assume control of your cities, states, and nations. He is going to take over your churches, schools, and corporations. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they are carried out depends on him. So it might be well to pay him some attention.

Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death, In years that bring the philosophic mind.--- Wordsworth

Reasons for living...
In order of thought, and are but a few of the reasons.
  • Beautiful things, natural or man made, anything that can cause tears to well in joy.
  • Finding new interests and getting good at them.
  • The absolute pleasure of the killer come-back (wining the point on return of serve }:- )
  • The touch of a woman.
  • Unconditional love (though this one can hurt like hell sometimes)
  • A pleasant Sunday afternoon in the garden with a book and a glass of wine.
  • Learning something new each day.
  • Being lucky enough to have a group of really, really good friends.
  • My Family
  • Meeting new and interesting people
  • Jaffa-cakes.

wiki owns
I love wikipedia. It's pretty much the place I go to look up just about anything.
One thing that got me pumped about life, was my homecoming dance tonight. It was so much better than I had anticipated, it's all about going out there and dancing, making a fool of yourself I guess, leaving the security of talking with other doods, and actually approaching and dancing with girls. I was talking to Phat and Jar about it before. Wierd to say this stuff to people I don't know but, because I can't play games on my computer because of lack of money, and time, I go on here and talk to you guys.
I'm also glad that my topic wasn't just an ineffective rant.

I am smiling.

Why one is happy to be alive
Compare it with the alternative. Compare it with the dead, who lie all around us. They are neither happy nor sad: they are nothing.
I'd a lot rather be something than nothing.
Because if you are something, you might do something. No guarantee of course, but it's possible. You can't do anything if you are dead. You can't, for example, overcome some earlier mistake. You can't do that if you are dead. But if you are alive, it's always possible.

I thought I put my finger right on it! heheheh.
Sexual pleasure is one of the greatest physical experiences humans can experience. It is truly what our bodies were designed for, either by Gods or by evolution. And we can even receive such pleasure through nonphysical means (that is not just direct physical contact). Thus by "sex" I mean more than just physical acts, though it certainly includes all of them as well.
