Just discovered that Google Maps now covers the entire world. Try this one:

Mineral harvesting beds at the south end of the Dead Sea IIRC. How do you get tyhe world-wide maps from Google?

Re: Exploring New Territory
They're just there. Drag yourself over somewhere in the world and zoom. Hi-rez maps of Paris and London, for sure. Haven't checked much else (couldn't think of anything that would look good from space. I don't know enough to tell the Great Wall of China from a major road.)

Not at maps.google.com they aren't detailed. Just country outlines. Could someone give me another URL?

When I posted that satellite photo of the Dead Sea, Google Maps had detailed satellite photos of the Middle East, and now it doesn't. The satellite photos of South America were from that continent's summer, and now they're from its winter and they're less detailed.
I only had a few minutes when I posted that photo, so I didn't poke around much, but the sparse evidence tells me that Google Maps had much more detailed maps and photos yesterday. I hope they'll come back soon.
