For lack of a better idea -
Charles Mingus - Hora Decubitus, from the Mingus, Mingus, Mingus album on the Impulse label. Cranking tune, also, Eric Dolpy does a fairly wacky alto solo.

Found a vesion of my fav on the web
Charles Mingus - Hora Decubitus
WFMU: World of Echo with Dave Mandl: Playlist from December 14, 2005
The above page isn't indexed to the individual tunes, so it takes a bit of work to get there. The tune starts at 0:57:56.
Take that back - Here's a direct link to the RealAudio version:
http://www.wfmu.org/listen.ram?show=17367&archive=24395&s...
It's currently available as both RealAudio and MP3. The MP3 version may have to buffer from the begining before you can hear it.
The RealAudio versions are perminent - The MP3 versions are not.
In general, I thought it was a wonderful show. As in, "to my tastes".

Footnote by edit:
Here's my overall favorite tune (not jazz)
Richard & Linda Thompson - Walking On A Wire

and a cover version
Knots & Crosses - Walking On A Wire

Intelligent design in jazz?
I posted the following here.
To what degree are "information" and "design" equivalent?
Now, performing a written out piece certainly contains intelligent design and information, they being the harmonic and melodic structure.
But, then comes the improvised solo(s), or perhaps even more extreme, pieces that are entirely so called "free improvisations".
Point of reference: Someone once transcribed John Coltrane's solo from "Blue Trane", and presented it to him to play. He tried to and failed, saying that it was too hard. Yet he performed it in the first place. Did he have "intelligent design" in the creation of the solo? I say, certainly - He had the ability to do and apply design in ways that other jazz musicians were not (and still are not?) capable of doing.

Punctuated equilibrium in jazz?
As I understand the history, the bebop movement in jazz was evolving in New York City (and elsewhere?) during a musicians union imposed recording ban. They thought, and probably rightfully so, that the release of recordings was hurting the live performance business.
Anyhow, jazz was evolving in the clubs (in geographic restriction?), without spreading elsewhere via recordings. Then the recording ban was lifted, bebop recordings happened, and the jazz listening world was punctuated by something "new and without roots".
Mingus lives!

Re: Punctuated equilibrium in jazz? - Dave Brubeck variety
Yes, musical punk eek.
Found this Dave Brubeck link. Apparently contains a link to a RealAudio version of an interview (need to get back to check it out), plus some downloadable MP3 files of Brubeck preformances:
An Hour With Dave Brubeck
Note the Darius Milhaud blurb on the page. Milhaud was a major influence on Brubeck. Burbeck named one of his sons after him.
