Re: Seeking, Striving, Trying
iano writes: So how many homeless people are currently residing at you residence? I'm not required to count them either. Don't waste any more posts on that nonsense. The point is that I am required to try my best to do unto them as I would do unto Jesus if He showed up on my doorstep. If I don't succeed in feeding every hungry person on earth, that is not my problem. It is those others who do not try who will be punished - just like the soldiers who refuse to go over the top will be punished.

Re: Seeking, Striving, Trying
iano writes: The trying bit has to established biblically. You have been given lots and lots and lots of Biblical backup by lots of people here. Yet you choose to waste everybody's time with semantic babble. Don't you think that suggests to people that you don't have much of a case?
What tramp is going to knock at your door to ask if he can come and stay for the winter? "Knock and the door shall be opened unto you."
Go out tonight Ringo and do unto others. Let me know how you get on will ya I'm doing the best I can. Are you?

Re: Righteous vs Unrighteous
iano writes: I have to ask you: biblically, where do you get the idea that 'do something' means 'trying to do something' I have to ask you: Biblically, where do you get the idea that "do something" means anything but "try your best"? That's the crux of your whole misunderstanding here. You depict a God who sets us up for failure, then comes riding up on His white charger to offer us the "gift" of salvation. That's the vainglorious God that jar has been trying to educate you about. Once and for all, show us Biblically where God requires us to do the impossible.

robinrohan writes: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48. KJV. Now show us Biblically that that is impossible.

iano writes: Nope, I most certainly am not doing the very best I can. Neither are you. You're not paying attention. I told you I am doing the best I can. Are you accusing me of lying? Now, show us where it says I have to do better than I can.

Re: Righteous vs Unrighteous
The ball is in the 'try-ers' court. The ball is in the back of your goal, as anybody reading this thread can see. You've got less than forty posts to try to get it out of there.

Re: Righteous vs Unrighteous
robinrohan writes: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 Who said robinrohan didn't know his Bible? So, Paul says we are all sinners and Jesus told us to stop being sinners. We're talking before and after here. "Stop doing what you've been doing." It ties in with what jar has been saying about repentence. How is that an impossible task?

Re: Righteous vs Unrighteous
Read a little further:
quote: Mat 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
"With God all things are possible" doesn't mean that God does it for you. It means you have to do what God wants you to do - i.e. love thy neighbour as thyself. Iano is tangled up in the idea that "with men this is impossible" and he ignores the "with God all things are possible" part.

Re: God or Us?
robinrohan writes: I suppose God knows your heart and so knows if you are really trying or not, but I'm concerned with our knowledge of our own heart. Do we know if we are really trying or not? I'm not sure that we do. I said it was simple. I didn't say it was easy. You're familiar with the concept of "giving 110%"? I know it's mathematical nonsense, but it conveys the principle of doing just a little bit more. If you can try a little bit harder to get the football across the line, why can't you try a little bit harder to love thy neighbour? In real life, the goals are more complex then in football, but the means of achieving them aren't all that different.
